pondering this on the way back from shopping this morning, Is there a List with the Optimum settings your car should have?? for example, Xantia Brakes, a figure for what you should be looking to achieve on the MOT test results?? fronts, rears, parking etc. ??? the percentage of efficiency you should be hitting??
i only ask as at slow speeds the brakes on mine Work, but i often think hey could be a Little Sharper as such?? being able to compare them against a set in top condition new pads and discs bedded in properly etc. could help point in the direction of things to improve??
Ta in advance for reading my waffling!
Timmo.

Re: an Optimum settings list??
Good thinking Timmo and that would be valuable but there's not one on here as far as I know...
Do VOSA publish such information or would one need to speak to a tame MOT tester to get it?

Re: an Optimum settings list??
If I can find the sheet from my red Xantia the tester was impressed with the fronts but not the rears. I'll see if I can find it as it would be a good starting point.

Re: an Optimum settings list??
My testers method was to ignore the rollers on the handbrake, just pulled it on as it rolled off and said, yep that works when it stopped...pass. He also said the Citroen system does not show correctly on rollers for the rear and will always show as poor due to the brake bias system. He read it on the MoT "testers forum" he is a member of. He does get his assistant (me this time) to apply the brakes then he attempts to rotate the wheel by hand to check they are working correctly. They showed as med/low effect on the machine, still a pass but he did not record it as an advisory for the reasons above.

Re: an Optimum settings list??
results from Tuesdays test, And last years as i have it to hand * edit, including results for the good ladies 04 Modus tested last year - this years is on her desk iircas the test is in the same folder (european travel folder)
Service Brake Front - Left 257 (KGf) - 2016 - 210 modus 53
Service Brake Right - Right 242 (kGf) - 2016 - 203 modus 276
Efficiency 35% - 2016 30% modus 43%
imbalance 5% - 2016 - 4 % modus 22%
Service Brake Rear - Left 169 (KGf) - 2016 - 144 modus 153
Service Brake Rear - Right 121 (kGf) - 2016 - 128 modus 126
Efficiency 20% - 2016 - 20% modus 23%
Imbalance 28% - 2016 - 25% modus 27%
Total Force Left 426 (KGf) - 2016 - 354 modus 406
Total force Right 363 (KGf) - 2016 - 331 modus 402
Efficiency 55% - 2016 50% modus 66%
Parking brake Left - 212 (KGf) - 2016 - 215 modus 144
Parking Brake Right - 241 (KGf) - 2016 - 217 modus 134
Efficiency 31% - 2016 - 32% modus 23%
looking at the results, brakes have improved Slightly on last years, but much the same, the imbalance on the rear would be down to replacing one of the rear pipes and not the other, i would assume that the parking brake could be down to slight stretch in the cable??
i've always been curious as to why they plot the chart upto 1200KGf when they only test to 250 ish on the car?? is 50% efficient Good or no?? oooh, so many numbers!!!!
*included the results from the good ladies little buzz box modus 1.4 for some context,

Re: an Optimum settings list??
It's measured as a percent of the cars bodyweight so 50% is 50% of 1400kg i.e. 700N or KgF.

Re: an Optimum settings list??
Having waited while an MoT test was being done earlier in the week the brake testing procedure was to test:
Front brakes first, left, right, together (balance). Each time gradually applying pressure until the needle on the brake force indicator reached a maximum.
Rear brakes second as above.
I'll look out the Picasso's MoT this arvo.

Re: an Optimum settings list??
For a Xantia, my MOT tester ignored the rollers totally and took it out for a quick test as he would with a permanent 4x4 vehicle.
