service.citroen (with restrictions) is available to all

Unread post by Old-Guy »

According to the GC4P's handbook, the owner of any Citroen car or LCV can have a service.citroen account. This gives full access to the Handbook (plus any revisions), the full factory spec of your vehicle, and part numbers (but not prices) for spare parts.
2012 Subaru Forester - capable but no magic carpet
2011 Grand C4 Picasso VTR+ 1.6HDi - not missed!
1995 Xantia Estate SX 1.9TD in Vert Vega "The Green Lady" - sadly missed
1998 Xantia 2.1 VXD Estate in Mauritius Blue - R.I.P. (terminal tin-worm)

They don't carry manuals for all cars and certainly not for older ones - you can't get one for the C5 Mark I & II nor the Xantia, nothing for the berlingo prior to 2008 - so I guess 2008 or earlier and you've had it.

Certainly, years ago you had to (pretend to) be a professional, but it was never policed.

Sadly true. But specifications and parts information is available as far back as the BX.

You don't even need to log-in to access Handbooks for post 2007 cars. Just go to http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp

I tend to access any manuals via my service Citroen account or my personal MyCitroen account - but I've got my original paper copies anyway. I was looking for a manual for a member here for his 2004 blingo and nothing doing. You can get one for a Picasso 2005 still though.

Those appear to be French language versions.

Of course it all reflects the attitude of main dealers/manufacturers who wouldn't look at anything once it was out of warranty. Then again, by the time cars get to the age that would interest many of us they're probably only worth the cost of a full service at a dealer.

Interesting comparison with our American cousins, many of whom think nothing of taking 20, 20 even 40 year old cars to a main dealer, who seem happy - & able - to oblige.

I registered years back - I had 3 cars in the family (and still have, albeit different ones) so thought "Fleet Manager" wasn't stretching the truth too far. No questions asked. Only ever used the free content though.

In my last employed job I was responsible for pay, pension, benefits and car policy (but not operational, just who gets what) so had access to all kinds of interesting stuff.

One of my big hates, is manufacturers who remove the specifications of 'discontinued' products from their websites - sometimes before the last units have been shipped and before retailers are even aware that the products are discontinued, let alone sold their existing stock.
Some of the worst offenders are 'technology' companies, though there are some notable exceptions (Toshiba springs to mind) who keep product specs available long after the products really are obsolete.
Sadly Citroen are a major offender - for example specs for the 2014-2016 C4 Picasso (let alone 2011-13 models) were taken down as soon as the new (2017) range was announced in October, even though most of these are still with the original owners and have yet to pass through Citroen agents' forecourts for the first time as 'used' cars!

Jaguar don't even wait for time to pass, if their dealer's computerised stock control identifies something's not sold in the last 12 months it tells them to dispose of it , so - every so often they get a skip in & off the stuff goes!

Used to know someone on particularly good terms with his local dealer who used to tip him off. He'd go & help himself to anything useful for his car - or that he thought would sell easily.
