106 1.5D - end of the road :(
Pug 106 1.5D , had a cam belt and water pump , also changed the oil and filter , and glow plugs and relay and fuel filter (10 months mot)
was running fine then as it got cold it didn't want to start - and finally , as the video shows was the last time we had it running.
any idea`s? was my sons before he had enough and bought a ford focus

Is it turning over?
If so I'd check the glow plugs are getting power.

that video shows the last time it ran - it turns over and with a double or triple heat *wants* to start up but doesnt

Only time I've seen a mechanical diesel stop under acceleration it was a knackered diesel pump.
Assuming fuel and tank filters are clean and no big fuel line leaks I'd guess the diesel pump is to blame.

I'm having issues (my fault) getting the video to play.
Do you see any air in the plastic fuel lines ? A mass amount of air can make them look milky rather than see bubbles but that's extreme.
These do have the infamous 'waxthermostat' thing the same as the XUD 'top hat' filter, the white plastic affair. Its on the back of the fuel filter housing. Feel around the top of the back of the fuel filter head for any signs of dampness.
The filters themselves can perish (the top seal, as its quite similar to an oil filter in its design) over time, moreso if its well overdue for a change.
I got the video half running but intermittent sound, I'd take the timing belt covers off and check that with the flywheel locked the pump and cam pins fit, I suspect it may actually be a tooth out on the cam ( ! ) , or the three bolts holding the cam pulley hubs have come loose...

definitely fuel pump related - fast idle works but the throttle does nothing at all

So are you saying that operating the throttle lever causes no change in engine speed at all but that operating eh fast idle lever changes the idle speed?

yes - the fast idle leaver adds more fuel , the pushing the throttle above it does nowt. and its running as rough as a badgers bottom

As the fast idle lever and the throttle both work on the governor it must be a mechanical failure within the pump connected with the throttle lever assembly... There is quite a complex spring arrangement that may have fallen apart.
Only way unfortunately is to have the pump off, strip it and see what's going in in there..
It's worth it if the rest of the car is in good nick..

That's a shameHarlequin wrote:scrapper it is then
The guide on my website for stripping a Bosch pump is equally applicable to your pump and in fact, being a non-turbo, is easier to do...

Got to be worth a go before turning the car into a pile of baked bean cans
