Re: C5 battery
Exactly, the car was in a week for a few things and it took a while to identify the short with a corroded wire. But I wont have anything said against the garage, they are excellent. I would do a few things myself, have done filter changes on the old C5s but haven't the confidence to take things apart. I had intended to do brake pads but they are sitting in my garage as I chickened out. Need a mentor.

Oh, no by no means am I slagging off your garage or suggested they overcharged. Just that any garage's labour rates are sky high IMO.
Shame you're not closer (only about 320 miles too far! ) or I'd be happy to spend a few hours helping out

You should be leasing, not owning, I think. Well worth looking at these days. All maintenance is covered.

Re: C5 battery
Whilst changing my battery, I spotted this on one of the plastic covers -

Is it just telling me to remove the -ve terminal first? When I first saw it, I was expecting the -ve terminal to be on the left - I was only confused for a second or two!

Re: C5 battery
Yes it is confusing Pete, looking at the diagram on the plastic you would think they could get the poles the right way round! Trouble is, taking the negative off first as recommended, is the most awkward as no 'pull clamp' and not the easiest to access the bolts with the battery charge control unit in the way too.
