Cold egs6 gearbox

Unread post by renagade »

Now then Guy's my 2011 c5 e-hdi egs6 is having a problem with this cold weather. if there is any frost about the clutch action is very rough until the engine and box warm up then it is perrrrrrrfect. I dread taking the car out for the first time in the very cold weather as the clutch really snatches and grabs though the gear change does not suffer the cold it is faultless all the time. I have in the last month had a garage top up the fluid in the gearbox actuator reservoir. They are a autobox specialist ( in Leeds ) .

Hi Guy's
I have come to the conclusion that the problem when cold is not the gearbox but the DMF. I think and I say think (as I don't know a lot about everything ) that one of the large springs (two of them ) may be faulty.

Have you done the clutch adjustment procedure? Just pull away from standstill hard, presumably allowing it change up into second, then stop and repeat 5-10 times. This is supposed to adjust the biting point of the clutch which may help. If not, then you will need to start saving for a clutch change. Do not expect any change out of £1000..... 60-80k seems to be the life of the EGS clutches. Lighty who posts here occasionally runs an indi not that far from you (Ilkeston) - if it needs a clutch then I would take it there as he knows what he is doing, and these are funny old things.

Not sure why you would suspect the DMF - unless you are finding it has become noisier - which can be a first sign of wear. They are of course designed to wear and once the springs go it won't be long before it starts to break up. DMF mileages vary considerably between owners - anything from 15k miles up - depending on the driver and driving conditions of course. Try the clutch adjustment first as Richard says and see if that is any better.
