C5 58 plate 2.0 hdi 16v timing belt.

Post by Tomas »

Hi,

Does anybody ever done timing belt for this one? My local halfords quated £577 including parts, looks a bit insane. Thinking to do myself, but from that what I see under bonnet, it doesn't look very inspiring.

Thanks

Tomas - for that price I would consider going direct to Citroen if not attempting yourself - they have 2 levels of fixed price repairs for cars over 3 years old. An Essentials or Originals. The 'essentials' uses Citroen approved parts and the 'originals' uses genuine Citroen parts - The timing belt replacement is £295 including VAT and Labour for the 'Essentials' and £345 for the 'Originals' A no-brainer IMO.

Just a thought though - I would check about getting the water pump done at the same time - that will likely need to be added on - but better check all the same. :-D

Everybody recommends doing the water pump at the same time. Occasionally you can get away without doing so, but often the old pump will start leaking not long afterwards (as it has been disturbed during the process of changing the belt).
