206 - burning smell over 3k RPM
Hi. Each time I reach over 3000 RPM (usually at 5th gear, never tried it on lower gears) I smell a burning smell. Something like burning rubber or plastic. I tried replacing the engine oil. To no avail. What could emit such smell? Thanks in advance for help.

Re: 206 - burning smell over 3k RPM
Hard to diagnose without experiencing it myself, but first thought would be the clutch starting to slip. That would be noticeable in high load situations only to start with. I assume you've checked that none of the brakes are sticking on slightly, and nothing is touching the wheels/tyres like a broken wheelarch liner perhaps? Clutch would be my uneducated guess though...

Re: 206 - burning smell over 3k RPM
Well, I did disassemble and reassemble the rear right wheel right after I bought her because of a broken brake cylinder (not sure if that's the right name for that part). The wheel arch liners aren't damaged or anything. Can you be more specific on the clutch?

Find a small hill (does not have to be steep, just an upward incline) , drive at about 30 to 40 mph depending on the road speed limit and conditions. Engage 5th gear. Attempt to accelerate quickly but without labouring the engine. Watch the rev counter for signs of movement beyond the usual speedometer increase aka clutch slip.
Don't keep it like this for longer than is necessary.
Regarding rear brakes, it could be over heating, feel the wheel trim (with care!) then the wheel (with care again! drums can get quite hot if they are binding!) , if its that wheel you'll immediately tell.
I do not suspect the rear wheel though as the wind would tend to carry the majority of the smell away rearwards. I suspect potential clutch slip as above.
