Yes, I am paranoid, but am I paranoid ENOUGH?
Out amongst the stars, looking for a world of my own!
When my Mum was carrying my twin brothers she wanted to give them as good a start to life as she could, so she did some research. She found out something that initially startled her, but when she though about it she found it made sense. What she discovered was this;
By the time a child is five years old they will have learned half the fundamental skills in life.
That seems strange at first (considering how much we learn in our lifetimes), but consider this. By the time they are five a child has learned a huge amount (hand/eye co-ordination, communication, toilet trained, can dress themselves, and so on). What Mum then did was to do what she could to help them get a better start. Babies will always copy their parents first, and others who they have regular contact with. She and my Step Father spent a lot of time with them, making sure to have new things to keep them interested and learning. By the time they were 5 they could both swim, ride a horse, speak a foreign language, and so on. The most important thing was to make sure everything they did was fun. Learning through play does work, so that was the way to go.
