Post by superloopy »

Daughters car ... 57 reg C1. She has had an email from local garage to say timing belt due soon. Does anyone know what the 'official' line is? I've rwlead that these haveca timing chain which never needs changing only retensioning? Any C1 owners on here (jim?).

As far as I'm aware it's a chain and never needs changing. However I would like to know properly as our 107 is on 72k and been abused so might be needed.

Indeed it is a chain.. A Morse chain in fact and will only need replacing if it wears to the extent its tensioner can no longer tension it...

You can see a small part of it through the oil filler cap...

Effectively, if you look after the oil changes it should last the life of the car..

If you do need to swap it then it's an engine out job and a major strip-down...

So ... a chain eh, wonder why this Citroen garage is mailing her as she has a FCSH to date so all should be ok. Think i'll reply asking what work they 'think' needs doing. Keep you all updated. Thanks people!

For info the diesel engine is belted and changed at 10yr/160000 mile intervals. Hers is 1.0 petrol and they know it having done recent servicing.

The petrol C1 needs very little done.. I'll be servicing my daughter's shortly. Oil, filters, maybe plugs, brake check/pads, brake fluid, safety checks and that, in reality, is about it apart from a clutch adjustment check and I have the instructions for that...

Oh and check the coolant and swap it every couple of years... Remember it's the pink stuff ;) Swap brake fluid every three years...

I do a C1 from start to end in less than a hour...

Same with younger daughter's Nissan Pixo...

Having them serviced by a garage is pointless and very relatively expensive for what's involved. You can do it Mike...

Ours has been driven hard but had 8 oil changes in 72k, brakes and plugs lasted until 50k, brake fluid changed at 3 years, coolant not done yet. The rearmost exhaust hanger broke off recently it's staying in place with wire for now and might stay up long enough yet. It's 4&1/2 years old and 72k and still just keeps going and feels fine, if a little slow. I'm using it just now for work in the absence of a working berlingo.

No, trying to fleece a bit more money Mike ;)

This morning I'll be making arrangements to service my daughter's C1 and Pixo in the next few days... That'll take me all of an hour
