Pug Problems

Unread post by Planko87 »

Got a real heart breaker of a problem guys, been a recurring issue every 4 weeks for the past 4 months and I'm at my wits end! I hope you can help me. I have an 04 407 2.0 Hdi which normally drives well, with the exception of this 4 weekly recurring issue. It begins when the car reaches temperature, while driving with the accelerator down the car will lose lower for a number of seconds (anywhere between 1 to 3) then it will sputter, I get a puff of what looks like grey/white smoke and the car returns to normal for a very random period of time, could be a few seconds up to a minute or 2. When this occurs, as the car idles it will dip to around 500rpm then Rev itself to about 1500rpm and produce a thick black smoke. So far in terms of repairs I have had the glow plugs changed (had a heater bank sensor fault code that I read is generally caused by the heater plugs) and changed the high pressure fuel pump. I also had a intermittent break switch fault that I don't think is related but I got it replaced anyway. Sorry for the long winded post guys but I wanted to give you as much info as possible.

Sounds like a fuel pressure fault, you really need a Lexia session. There is a list on here somewhere of Lexia owners (that know how to use them), see if you can find one near you.

Could it be water in the fuel, that's the sort of symptom you get when a droplet of water finds its way through an injector.

Has this got a FAP fitted? wondering if it's something weird going on with an attempted regen or similar. Lexia session is pretty much essential though with something as intermittent as this, would have thought there'd be at least one or two "pending" fault codes with it. Be interested to hear how this goes as it's a bit of a strange one.

Sorry I haven't replied guys been flat out and only seeing all the replies now.

1st and foremost thanks for all the replies.

Took the car up to Belfast and back (around 60 miles motorway driving) in 4th gear the whole way as I have been told it could be a regen issue. She drove like a dog the whole way, stalling whilst idling and more of the aforementioned loss of power and excess smoke. The car lay up for 3 days then did the same drive again, zero issues. Even left the car idling at the docks for 20 mins or so waiting on the fiance and still nothing.

Unfortunately there is only one guy in Belfast listed in the Lexia locations post. Would it be worthwhile bringing to Peugeot and asking about the fuel pressure?

Ekjdm14 I don't know what an FAP is but I have been told my DPF has been drilled out?

I've reset my odometer there to see if the problem only starts up again around the same sort of mileage. Last time it was around 400 miles which I've been told would be about the time she'd be trying to regen.

Once again thanks for the replies guys, at my wits end with this yoke!

FAP and DPF are the same. They are just acronyms for the French (filter a particles or something like that) and English respectively.

I was wondering something similar myself. Does the 04 HDi engine have a DPF in the 407?

I have no idea which engine it is. How could I find that info out? Somethings telling me it's the 16v but can't be certain.

Paul-R I've been told the DPF has been drilled out. That's as much as I know
