Help asked

Unread post by daviemck2006 »

Does anyone know if a 2006 c4 2.0hdi auto have a proper slush box or the horrible egs? Also would it be the 16v 138hp engine. I can get the registration number if it helps. TIA

If it's the 2.0 HDi, then very likely to be the 138, with DPF. The other 2 diesels were 1.6 (92) and 1.6 (110) at launch. If you have the reg I can get the info you need re the gearing, however I think the EGS boxes were mated to the 110 engines, with the 2.0 HDi having the 6 speed manual unit. I'll know for sure once you get the reg.

GF56 FVA. It's for sale locally as a mot failure, only needing discs all round. It would do me fine for a daily and I would flog the berlingo as it is. I like c4's discs and pads all round won't be a fortune, it's done 105k and it's £400. And black, the best c4 colour!

Beware that this car may have the rear disks with integral wheel bearings and ABS rings, which are not cheap to replace (it is worth getting them skimmed if there is enough metal left).

It looks like it's a 4sp box, so presumably a 'proper' TC auto rather than an EGS. I imagine consumption round town will be in the 20s....!

Would need to have a look on service.citroen, but the early ones may well have been on conventional rear discs. The ones with bearing are not so bad - I got a set for the C4 Picasso for <£100. They're not so bad to change - the trouble I had was that the Torx heads on the 307 had dissolved. They're easy enough to cut off with a grinder however! You just need to lay new bolts in before starting the job as they are metric fine thread, so not readily available. Oh, and you may need a 36mm socket to get the hub nuts off - NOT 35mm as per the front hub nuts (although that was a later change, so they may only be 32mm).

Richard, all of the points you raise might be what was behind the view I had expressed to me that they were not straightforward...

In thinking about it, potentially still easier than recalcitrant Xantia rear discs and callipers...

I very much expect up in Davie's neck of the woods corrosion of those Torx bolts will be almost a given...

Although not terribly helpful I seem to recall the later 307's (possibly the last year or two) also did the "lets put the wheel bearings into the rear discs for fun" trick too.

Right, as per the reg, this is a 2.0 HDi 138 VTR model with DPF and the AM6 Auto box. No EGS!
I've sent you a copy of the specs.

As for the rear Discs - yep, looks like the integrated bearings!

Thanks guys, that will be why they replaced the car rather than fit brakes. They probably have had some stupid quote for doing the job. I'm waiting to see if I can go view it, someone got in before me.

Well I haven't heard from the seller if I can view this yet. It seems as there is the possibility of bosch or lucas calipers for the back, as well as two different diameters of stub axle for the rear, and two different sizes of front discs and pads! Typical citroen, why can't they make them all the bloody same! My thinking just now is that I may get £400 for the berlingo with a blown head gasket, so if I were to buy this I have a few hundred pounds of repairs to do, either way, Plus this one at 105k and 10 years will most likely to need timing belt done, add on a bit more money. However if I ever buy another c4 it would be an auto, which means 2.0 hdi or 1.6 petrol to get a slush box. The 2.0 hdi must be for me vastly better than 1.6 petrol. And black is the best colour. There's no need for hasty decisions from me, as I have custody of the 107 for now for daily duties until shaun breaks his civic again lol. The sooner he gets the skoda running again the better! I am leaning more towards keeping the berlingo parked up for a while yet, or a 2.0 hdi 138 c4 would be a nippy car and easy enough to run, or ,,,,,,,,,
