Hi All,
I've just bought a new (to me) C5 X7 exclusive - liking lots of things about it - but there are still lots of things I miss about the CX.
Anyway - on to my question...
I'm about to get some new all-season tyres (probably going with Michelin Cross-Climate), but I feel like i've read all sorts of horror stories about LDS tanks bursting if the car isn't jacked up right - so I need to know exactly what to tell the garage - and to make sure they do it!
At the moment I'm a bit confused because it seems that the suspension needs to be on high if using a single jack and changing one wheel at a time, but low if the car is lifted off the ground on a hoist - is that right?
Any help - plus suggestions of tyre garages in and around Brimingham that know about Hydractive Citroens would be very useful...
Cheers,
OLIx

You might check tyre and fitting prices at the dealer - they can sometimes be quite competitive and 'should' know what they are doing

Regarding Jacking the car up No - never lift it off the ground (wheels hanging) without raising the suspension to high first, then loosen the LDS cap. When I have my tyres fitted I usually insist on driving it in and I actually raise the suspension myself and then loosen the cap. They only have to concentrate on lifting the ramp doing the tyres and lowering the ramp. Once it's back on the ground, I lower the car and do the cap up myself. If you get some smart arse thinking he knows better, just correct him and tell him he'll be getting £1000 bill in that case.
Same applies with changing a single tyre - but you don't need to loosen the cap in this case. Raise suspension, loosen bolts, slip jack underneath raise a little more and change wheel.

The LDS cap was replaced with a newer version in 2010 - replacement part number 4009 V9. This unit has a tube in the cap, but nobody seems to know quite what it does. I'm ordering one myself as I suspect I have the older one (4009 L6).

I wonder if that new cap is suitable for the earlier series C5s?

Why not just crack the LDS bottle cap off a bit and then tighten it up when you get the car back?

James, the 4009 V9 is also the replacement part for the Mark II Facelift C5. Regarding a Mark I, there is no replacement part shown - maybe they didn't think it was worth updating the specs for the Mark I in 2010 when they were aware of the issues?

It is quite entertaining having a "Special "car, just watch the fitters faces when you raise it...

Does the X7 use solid centre alloy wheels ? If so does the garage have a suitable adapter to be able to balance the wheels ?
