Hi Guy's
Went out today for a 190 mile run with the boss and twice the egs gear box through itself out of auto and I had to drive in manual but on stopping the car and switching off the engine and opening and closing the drivers door and starting the engine all was ok again. When it is working ok ( egs 6 ) the changes are smooth and the clutch takes up just as it should. I am betting on an electrical fault, what do you guy's think.

Re: 2011 c5 1.6 egs6 gearbox
That could be the start of one of the actuators starting to play up - possibly the gearbox actuator. There are others with very similar problems on C4 Owners:

So check to see if the software needs updating first - and at the same time see if there are any specific fault codes. Also might be worth checking about the Diesel Particulate Filter or the Additive situation. If the filter is getting clogged (but on a 190 mile run it should of had enough time to complete a regeneration cycle) it might cause the car to splutter which in turn could cause the drop from auto to manual - just the same as when the cruise control is engaged and the engine hesitates, it will kick it out of cruise mode.
So as you can see there could be many possibilities - a check on the software and fault codes seems the logical step first though.

Re: 2011 c5 1.6 egs6 gearbox
First thing in the morning weather permitting I am getting the lexia onto it as the garage I bought it from want it back in the afternoon as they say they have it booked into a gearbox centre in the afternoon to get it sorted. By the way the 1.6 engine in my car is as smooth as ......... when running I am sure if it would have faulted I would know .

Well gto my car back today , and what a different car it is , they told my that the gearbox oil ( 2011 1.6 e-hdi egs6 ) was low and toped it up. Not sure that the gearbox is sealed for life but that is what they said. Anyway's the car is back and running great.

Yes sealed for life is a bit of a misnomer here on the forum rarely ever means that, glad you got it sorted.

Re: 2011 c5 1.6 egs6 gearbox
I have just found the guy's that had done the repair on my car and chatting to him he say's that it was the clutch actuator reservoir that was very low on fluid and it had been drawing in air. Well that seems to be more believable than toping up the gearbox.

That system is supposed to be sealed though, so where did the oil go....?????

Re: 2011 c5 1.6 egs6 gearbox
The egs box is a completely conventional manual box with a clutch but electronic controled clutch actuators... so possibly drive shaft seals could be weeping..

Not quite Paul, the later boxes have a hydraulic powered actuator and clutch slave - these have a hydraulic supply, pump and accumulator, separate from the gearbox oil, and which should be sealed.

Yes I agree , as long as you are not in a hurry I find the egs6 to be quite smooth, anyway's once it has learn't how you drive it can be very good. I have had the 2011 1.6 e-hdi egs6 for four weeks now and I am not missing my 2009 2lt hdi c5 one bit.
