Hi All of greater experience, advice needed ASAP please
Xantia 2.0L 16v Esatate - Bendix Caliper
Due to Controle Technique (French MOT) failure! "Problem in the Caliper"
Although a new slide pin and pads had been fitted a couple of months ago I could not be bothered to try to argue in my poor French.
So I had a local garage change the (UK) offside brake caliper and flexible hose. (Old war wound playing up is preventing me getting down and dirty).
Drove home down bumpy track, WHAT THE FLIP???? Clunking, thought the wheel was loose. No, the new caliper (Shiney) can be gripped in the hand and moved about 1/2mm on the slide pin (not measured, just feels that much). This test with wheel still on.
Driving over small bumps in tarmac road, loud rattle, pound to a pinch of Chinese its the caliper rattling on the slide pin.
A pal is visiting soon so will have an able body to take wheel of for me for investigation.
Question in the meantime. Should a new (presumably reconditioned) caliper flop around on the slide pin like a sausage in and entry? My guess is not, would a wise brain or two confirm this please. I am suspecting a worn caliper slide "bushing", which I thing may be only a reaming in the casting.
The conversation with the French speaking garage owner will be "interesting" with my basic French, who says life isn't interesting, ha ha.
Thanks in anticipation, Bargeman

Re: New front caliper Rattling on slide pin - Is this OK?
Pal came round, wheel off, big hole where pad tensioning spring should be.
Filled hole with old spring that should have been thrown away after fitting new pads three months ago.
Everything now tight and in place.
Wheel back on, roadtest, very quiet.
Treat Pal to a couple of beers as a thank you.
Would you believe it? Will I approach the garage, in UK yes, here because of language probably not.

For the sake of international relations, it might be better to not to hand him that note . . .

And it's the wrong spring. Printemps is the season between winter and summer! You really want "le resort" in this context.

Hi Stcky
Thanks for the effort, Spring in season could be something like this "Le printemps est après l'hiver"
However it was a bloody good try. and again thank you, After wot you rote "..............................." I would of added
"Où sont vos testicules, dans votre tête, vous Gitan"
Which translates to something like "Have you Bo%^&£S for brains, you Pikie (Bad Gypsie).
