Xantia factory alloys question

Post by aerodynamica »

Hi all, I recently acquired a set of Peugeot 'Nimrod' wheels to fit to the Xantia like I did on a previous one. They were a straight swap both being 15 inch and same PCD etc. But the current set are 16" and look wider, they have wider tyres at 205. What I was wondering was if anyone happens to know what the standard Xantia alloys have as their width and offset. I did a search on here and found this topic
http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 8&start=45
So I think the width is 6 (they're the Belfast alloys) but not sure of the offset. Just asking before I see the car again tomorrow afternoon. I can check then but doing some little workings on what I might need to add to change the offset of the new wheels. I think I might need a spacer on the hub but perhaps the new wheels have an offset that accounts for the (possibly) wider wheel.

I briefly fitted a rear on but not the full set as I need new wheel bolts to fit. The fit on the hub was fine but to my eyes it looked like the wheel was slightly further in than the previous set of Nimrods.

The tyres on the V6's and Activa's are 205 tyres as standard.

205/60/15 IIRC.

I think the wheels are 6.5J as and the other tyre size is 185 65 15.

No, I think that Activas, V6s and HDI 110s got 6Js, some others were 5.5Js

Hopefully they work, it has the wheel sizes at least, no offsets though

Actually Stu, I wonder what the '4.8 ch' means. Could it be an offset of 48mm? ( you know the French with the 10,20 rpm not 1,2 K rpm - just wondering of there was a factor of 10 there somewhere!? )

No idea, most citroen wheels offset is around 20!

I've got a spare out at my mums, might measure the offset when im there next

That sounds about right.

My 1997 S1 Xantia 2.0i VSX came with 185/65/15 tyres on 15" alloys but they are visibly narrower than the alloys on the Xantia V6.

I think only Activa and V6 Alloys are 6J, the lower spec models are 5.5J.

I upgraded that VSX to 205/60/15 tyres and you could visibly see that the tyres were wider than the rims. Still worked fine though, so at the end of the day either 5.5J or 6J are probably fine on a Xantia with the "small" brakes calipers. I got great handling from that car with the larger tyres on the slightly narrower rims. Not sure if 5.5J's would fit on a Xantia with the large brake calipers though! Perhaps that's a reason for the wider rims on models with the larger brakes.

It's the diameter that needs changing rather than the width. Could happily run any width as long as the rims 15" (for 283/288mm discs)

Also the Activa and the V6 both needed V rated tyres with a stiffer sidewall (given by the wider rim).

Were the V rated M-Pilots fitted to other models ?

Think you'll find that the Activa was on 'W' rated tyres all round. Surprisingly the V6 did get 'V' rating .... not so much heavy cornering i assume.

Are you getting that info from the door card or online though ?

On both my V6's every time I've put my number plate into a tyre website tyre lookup it always claims I need W rated tyres however both cars have clearly said V rated on the tyre info door card, and that is what I go by.

V rated is 140mph, and the V6 is the fastest stock Xantia, there's no need for a W rating on the slower Activa...

BTW the letter is a speed rating not a load rating, so "heavy cornering" is irrelevant to the speed rating, which is based on the cars top speed. 91 is the load rating.

Ratings for all my cars, 2 activas and v6 are taken from service.citroen and certainly my activas were on W rated tyres although when i got the v6 it was on H rated [emoji33]

Point i was making about cornering was to do with the possibility that W rated tyres might have a firmer sidewall as well as a higher speed rating??

Sorry yes....W (Activa) and V on the V6

Is "max possible temperature" a factor in the V/W difference ?

I would think the Activa would generate more heat
