Citroen Piccaso c3 or Peugeot 3008?

Post by demag »

I'm getting fed up with the Kia. Constant irritating silly problems that Kia aren't all that bothered about. I am rather taken with the 3008 and there don't seem to be any common problems. Or maybe the c3 Piccaso. Any views or experience of these cars? I know there a bit "modern" but thought I'd ask.

I am not a great fan of the looking for a new car process, but its always more enjoyable if you are shopping for something you fancy, rather than bog standard daily transport. If you have a fancy for the Peugeot 3008 go for the test drive's, hire one, and if you like it search out the cheapest way of getting one.

Just wondered if when considering a new car you would consider a hybrid or fully electric one. These days you dont really "buy" a new car and the deals always seem to be expressesd in £x deposit and ONLY £y per month.

Had a look at the Renault Zoe "new".....and the deal was summed up as £109/month and £1,499 deposit.

Smallish print £109/mth doesn't include compulsory battery hire at £55/mth. Excess milage 30p/mile battery hire and 8p/mile personal contract purchase.

and the milage.......a paltry 3,000 per year!

Wonder whether there is any value in 2nd hand Nissan Leafs.....13reg ones under £5,000 off the Nissan garage forecourt.

Regards Neil

Hi Neil,
I don't do those finance deal thingies. I'm retired now so don't want monthly payments. I want to spend £5k max. I know it sort of limits my options but I'll just part ex and pay the rest cash and the car's mine. There are a few 3008's near here for approx £4.5-£5k with 40-50k on the clocks diesel. I can get cheaper/lower mileage if I go petrol but then the tax is more. The C3 Picasso's are about the same deal give or take but the cabin storage is poor, the glove box is big enough for a cheese sarnie really and not much more. I might leave it till nearer Christmas when prices drop a bit. Was also looking at the Kia Soul auto diesel which I have driven but I would be stuck with the race car suspension again where as the other two will be a bit softer I think.

2011 is the change over from the 16V 1.6 HDi to the 8V 1.6 HDI. Early one has a plastic cover with HDi 16 on it, the later one a felt cover. The early one is best avoided, unless you want to get your hands dirty to do some mods to avoid turbo failure - you might be able to use this as a bargaining chip though. The cars are quite different characters, the 3008 is supposed to be a small SUV cross over thingy, so you would need to drive both and see which suited best.

Yes Richard I had a Berlingo that destroyed two turbos. I wondered when the change was. The later engines are supposed to be improved aren't they? Not sure what they did to them though.

Probably removed the filter from the turbo oil feed pipe.

Yeah that would be the biggest improvement they could possibly make!

My sister in law has had 2 C3 Picassos, first was a 1.6Hdi, second and current is a recent but second hand 1.2 Puretech 110 engine one. Very practical, can get bikes and stuff in boot easily. The first one she bought 3 years old and sold on after another 3, nothing wrong with it but she has no diy skills and wanted to move it on before any work was needed. Fairly 'upright' so easy to get in and out (my wife has the beginnings of arthritis in and notices these things).

Puretech engines might be a bit too new/too expensive looking at your budget but its a gem of an engine - we have an 82 bhp one in a C3 and it is really 'driveable', good spread of torque and goes very well when wound up.

I also drove a 1.6 older Petrol engine with EGS and was moderately under-whelmed.

Quite a few go out on motability leases, which includes servicing, and both of hers were ex motability cars.

I know nothing of 3008's, probably fine, but locally we have a very good 'family' Citroen Dealer and a big-chain Peugeot one. It does make a difference.

Unless you really need the space, don't rule out a C3 5 door hatch, 'softer' than a Fiesta and doesn't get rave reviews in the press but fine to drive, a decent boot and comfortable transport.
