c5 gearbox

Morning gents have been absent from here for a long time so its good to see the some of the old faces around!. I have just bought a 2006 1.6 hdi c5 estate that has a crunchy 3rd gear so needs a new box ,has anybody got a definitive list of which vehicles i can plunder one from? Supply is somewhat limited over here so any pointers would be most welcome.

Post up the last 8 digits of the VIN and we can check what box is fitted, which may help with finding another. I suspect the generic box is used in many other cars, but there may be ratio differences that will not make them appropriate for the C5.

just picked it up front calliper still sticking and crunching away in 3rd previous owner said that it has done it since she had it but did not bother addressing the problem when the clutch was changed! last 8 of vin are 76731617

Which is listed only for C5 (both Mk2 and 3) and 407 and 508. So it's not exactly widely used! It is a development of the old BE box, and failure of the 3rd synchro is not exactly unknown. 3rd/4th synchro unit is £275....
