Alarm fuse?

Unread post by superloopy »

Anyone know which is the alarm fuse on a 1996 S1 Xantia? Just hooked a battery up to my longstanding activa to see whats what. Plip not being recognised, alarm going crazy (!!) and depressing the switch in cabin does nothing. Bu@@er!!!

S1 doesn't unfortunately!

2 secs i'll type the alarm reset procedure up

You can also try holding the sensor override button down while turning the ignition, it should flash the indicators. Otherwise

Alarm reset (from what i can remember)

Take both battery terminals off. The alarm should go ballistic. Put the key in the ignition and turn to position 2. Go back and put the positive terminal back on, and then the negative. Run back and hold the alarm override button down.

[emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]... very good. I eventually pulled F17 and she went silent allowing me to try and resync the plip but its not having any of it. Need to dig up the resync for an IR plip but i thought it was as simple as key to position 2 and fire plip a good few times towards roof sensor? Obviously not. Plip IS firing ok, checked with camera. New batteries inserted still no go. Any ideas? I can assume pulling F17 has nowt to do with this, yes?

Are you sure it's not the alarm doing what it should, i.e. telling you a door. bonnet, boot etc. is sensed as open.

Nah the alarm shouldn't affect the central locking. I find it can be a ballache resyncing IR remotes, I unlocked the car turned key to 2, pointed at the reciever and pressed the first button (raised one) a few times, then ignition off and leave it for a minute before testing. Mine (when syncing a second remote) had original remote only, none working, new one only, deadlock and alarm button on new one but lock unlock on original and then finally both working. It's like rolling the dice and took me hours to get working properly.

Does your Owner's Handbook detail the alarm reset procedure, assuming it's OE equipment?

During the '90s, Citroen were fittimg a variety of alarm systems, all slightly different. On the XM, by 1996 remotes had become RF, although the roof-mounted IR bulge was retained, giving the impression that the system was IR! Confusing.

A check on Service.Citroen under vehicle Characteristics should specify which system you car was fitted with.

As far as I know the RF plips didn't come into use until the S2 Xantia, although I stand to be corrected!

Correct: IR on MK1 RF on MK2.

You should be able to cancel the alarm by locking the car, then unlocking it, and within 10s opening the door and turning the ign on whilst holding down the alarm cancel / internal sensors defeat button. In theory pulling the alarm fuse shouldn't shut up the siren, as it has its own internal power supply (although this may long since have died). Early MK1s also had a silence key switch under the bonnet. This doesn't stop the headlights flashing, but it should stop the siren deafening you.
