What is this for

Unread post by renagade »

Hi Guy's
Was looking in the engine bay and fond a small container fastened to the side of the inner wing on the drivers side of my C5 X7. The bottle seems to have what seems like oil in it. It has a large pipe from the bottom which goes down the engine bay and disappears. What could it be. I would put an image on for all to see but I don't know how to past images. unspecified.jpg

Can you see where the pipe goes - my guess would be it is the reservoir for the clutch.
Must have a look and see what mine looks like.

I have had a new clutch only 200 miles ago and would have thought the garage would have filled it up on completion but it is half empty or half full which ever way I look at it. it would not have any thing to do with that special oil that needs filling up after many thousands of miles.??

The Eolys tank is near the fuel tank and much larger.
Just had a look in mine but can't see anything although I know there is one lurking there somewhere :(

It's the power steering fluid reservoir. It should be roughly half full - there are upper and lower marks on it, but they're quite close together. Keep an eye on it as it can be a good indicator of a leaking steering rack. Use Total Fluide DA or LDS to refill it if it's down a bit. Expect to only use a piddling amount though - then do the bottle up tight and place it in the spare wheel well so you've got it with you when the steering rack finally lets go and you start running out of fluid miles from anywhere :?

Hadn't considered the power steering - blinkered as mine shares the LDS suspension fluid.

I think Renegade has a Metallic X7, so no BHI or LDS tank, just this little bottle for the PS fluid as Bobbins says.
