code 0408 fault

Post by jaysian »

hi all , I'm a new member here so hello , can someone throw any light on this error code p0408 P0408 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit High , this is the fault code message on citroens fault code page , would this be the egr solenoid fault? or a wiring problem , I bought the car second hand and have taking it back on 4 separate occasions and was told it was fixed , the light stays off after the garage has had it for around 3 hours after then the engine management light comes back on , the car runs really nice with no obvious speed issue idles ok and drives really well , any help here plz guys thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

A bit more information would help. What engine is this? And can you confirm that this is a Xsara and not a Xsara Picasso? What year is it?

The EGR on these is a vac operated thing with an electric solenoid. The solenoid is a weak point, my guess would be that is where the fault lies.

Can't add much extra - I was really asking on behalf of everyone.

Check that the vacuum pipes on the solenoid are actually connected and that they have no cracks.
