Brake caliper air bleeder screw-valve-nipple

Unread post by Tscope »

Hi folks

I was about to fix up the front brakes on my old Picasso 90 HDI from 01 with Lucas calipers
BUT wear & tear included a large amount of road salt (DK) have done it's job well
The air bleeder screws all way around are more or less gone, the visible part at least :?

So before i jump out in the operation I would like to ask, if any of you splendid gentlemen on this sublime
Forum KNOW the exact size of this bleed nipple, REAR brakes = drums
Maybe someone with access to servicenet. :-D

Best Regards from Denmark

Yes - do check which thread the brake bleed nipple is on your Xsara.
Have noticed that later PSA vehicles have moved to M10 and M12 size.

Earlier M8 (used onBX, C25, Xan, XanII, XM, XMII) is part no. 1210 06, and is now NFP.
The item is used not just on brakes, but also some other hydraulic items.

Worth laying in a few (if you can find them) or acquiring decent from scrap. Easy at any breaker's, as wheels tend to be removed. 8mm ring or socket fits.

The main problem here in DK the salt would already have already had aten up the best of it, so pick i up from the scrap, you have to be unusually lucky,, but you're right, front bleeder nipple is M8 X 1.25 and around 35 mm long
The local Tractor mechanical had them in stock for free (:
I had one of the pistons out, and it didn't look well alot corrosion and minor marks, and guess thats why it tend to hang and make noise. The pins was sliding smoothly
So Ordered two frenkit caliper repair kit, and then I cross fingers for the quality of this kits are OKAY

Careful with ss in alloy callipers, they'll want to galvanically corrode like the back of the callipers. It's not a good place for a blob of geese either so won't be easy to stop.

I think you'll find it's a gaggle of geese, rather than a blob O:) - but a good cautionary note, all the same.
