Rear Calipers / Discs / fitting kit - Xantia Estate

Post by BMBCreative »

Hi Folks,

Im wondering if you can help me.
I'm trying to source rear wheel Discs, Calipers and a fitting kit for my 1997 Citroen Xantia 1.9 Turbo Diesel Estate but I'm having trouble finding them. ( I have the Pads )

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?
Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Bryan

quick question, why do you need calipers? they can be sourced but i've yet to see a caliper fail other than being destroyed when the bolts won't come out

GSF stock the rear discs but the nearest one would be dublin, which isn't near at all and they don't seem to ship them.

the fitting kit however is usually on ebay, just contains the covers, antirattle and bolt!

changing the discs also involves unbolting the caliper which can get daunting if the bolts are nice n snug

Hi Bryan

Try http://www.teilehaber.de/itm/antriebswe ... 97213.html

They are in Germany, basically act as agents for other "Partners". They arrange postage to any EU country. They were one of only two places I could find a driveshaft for my automatic, even though they are as rare as moon dust.

Or you could try https://www.oscaro.com/ This time French, if they don't post to Ireland perhaps youcould get them posted to me (in France) and I could post them on at cost via French Post Office.

Hope this helps, Bargeman

PS. I had to use an electric impact wrench remove the caliper bolts, as the aluminium oxide build up on the back of the calipers made them sooooo tight.

Something somebody suggested I try (when I had a Xantia) was to put some baking parchment between the calliper and the arm. That should delay the onset of the corrosion, and it also should be able to manage the heat generated in the brakes (after all, it is used in ovens at temperatures in excess of 200C). I never got around to doing that, but it should work.

it is also hygroscopic being paper based, I think it would make it worse......

I've always used copper slip on the back of the callipers to stop the corrosion. An impact gun will work wonders on the rear calliper bolts and a blowtorch will make life even easier. It's worth having replacement bolts on standby as they are usually fairly aged when they come out. The Clarke 240v 1/2" impact wrench does the job just fine if you don't have a compressor.

Try Mick.
Seems to have them in stock. Order before Monday evening and An Post should have them with you on Tuesday morning even on the free delivery.
I know you have the pads but I included the link for them anyway. Currently 20% off their price

They only seem to have one calliper.

Did you try your local Top Part. I would be surprised if they couldn't get them overnight. Mister-auto.ie is also a good source especially for French cars. They are based in France and delivery is slower than Mick who is in Dublin.

I gave up on the baking parchment and used heavy duty plastic used in damp proof course. Works brilliantly my rear wheels spin completely freely now and I've been using it for 18 months with not a sign,of melting.

There are plastic films (e.g. Mylar) that have very good high temperature performance. Not sure of a current source, I still have some offcuts from some sheets of various thickness that my dad bought about 40 years ago...

I wonder if carbon fibre would be satisfactory?

Instant gasket silicone would do the job fine too. Put some grease on one side should you want to pull off some time. Use what you have lying around. I put etch primer and then engine enamel on. It will work.

Guys, Thanks a mill, I'm new to this forum and overwhelmed with all the help!

Sorry for the late reply, I thought I had email notifications set up for replies but obviously not.
She's in good shape overall but the Calipers are badly corroded and have to be replaced - the squeaking is getting bad...

I will try Mick's garage in the morning, between them and autoparts I think I should be sorted.
Thanks again!!

Cheers,
Bryan
