Help needed cutting out mk1 2.2 hdi

Post by waynedance »

In the past 4 weeks my car has cut out 4 times each time a little after starting the engine.

Sometimes the idle is lumpy and the cutting out can happen when the engine is hot or cold. Any ideas? No warning lights on and seems to run OK with plenty of power. Fuel filter last changed 7k ago.

The only thing I can think of that gives intermittent faults on those engines is the pressure regulator on the back of the HP pump.

I have had similar faults on the 2.2 citroen c5 I will list my findings

Intank failing usually tell tale signs are brass swarf in the bottom of the fuel filter housing

Wiring faults common one is corrosion in the connector on the intank/sender unit sometimes with erratic fuel gauge
Poor connection on the multi plug which connects the intank pump supply from the bsi (found this one at 3 in the morning on the m5!!)
Break in the wire where it leaves the engine loom for the rail pressure sensor (this one did throw the engine management light on)

Injectors (can happen hot or cold does not always throw the management light on)

Air flow meter check air filter has not got a hole in it and got sucked up into the air flow meter have had a couple of these due to cheap filters without the foam underside usually happens when they get wet

Hope this helps

Will have to get it on the diagnostic and look at the injector correction values. Will look in to what you have said, thanks.

Had the diagnostic on the car and found the following.
Temp sensor, vehicle speed and engine speed sensor incorrect value both intermittent fault but that could be from the cutting out. Fuel pressure regulator short circuit to earth or open circuit. Max additive reached in dpf reached.

All injector correction valves are below 3, last dpf regenerations was 251 miles ago and average miles between regeneration is 450 miles.

Reset all faults and will see what returns.

I think I am also getting a slight loss of power sometimes.

Thinking would the fuel regulator cause power loss, cutting out and poor idle at times?

Had a look at the fuel injector correction values today, 1 is approx +3 and one about -2.3

The car has not cut out this week but I am getting hesitation/power loss. The car starts fine and seems to idle fine, maybe slightly hunting at idle.
