Full-load adustment screw

Post by lazza »

HI

Errr .. I've managed to sheer off my full-load adjustment screw. I was winding adjusting it to reduce fuel intake for this year's MOT smoke test, as it worked a treat last year. But somehow broke it!

Anyone know where I can get a replacement?? its a VE Bosch LDA type (0460494412 VE4/9F2250R445-8)

Not sure how i'm going to get the other half of it out either

Cheers

Has that still got the collar pressed onto it too??

Getting the rest out will involve taking the pump off i fear

How on earth did you manage to do that Larry?

Did it feel really tight? It shouldn't have once the locknut was loosened...

Yes, I reckon you may be right Stu, unless the stub can be gently drilled and an easy-out used to extract but that is a tad risky with swarf and resulting further damage...

Larry, the screws are identical across all VE series pumps so getting a replacement should not be too difficult...

I'd take the pump of to be on the safe side and then I'd take the lid off and screw the screw out from behind...

I don't quite know how I did it. When I was adjusting I did it up loosely, but fuel was escaping, so I had to put the lock nut on tight after each adjustment. On the final adjustment it, as I tightened the lock nut, it
just gave way- don't understand how that could happen, I guess I'll understand better when I take it out.

Can you buy the part from a website or will I have to try the breakers?

Leaking fuel? Thats not good, had it been screwed too far??

I don't know if they're available new tbh, definately from a pump but you'd have to find a scrappy as nobodies going to part out a pump

edit: nah can't easily find it new unfortunately, a few sites out there that sell daft things like the LDA pins and diaphramns!

They will leak if the O ring on them is damaged/hard/perished....

Sounds like it was already fractured or weak and you just pushed it over the edge Larry...

Your best bet is to ask around here for a S/H one... Back when I had loads of old pumps kicking around I could have done the honours but sadly I have none at all now...

Paul (Citroenxm) may be a good bet...

HI Guys

Just to let you know i've had some joy. I managed to source a new full-load adjustment screw in a Bosch service injection specialist garage in Huelva.

I also had a neat idea for taking the remaining half of the old screw out- using a specialist tools for bosch injectors- nail scissors :rofl2:

After trying unsuccesfully to attach items to the half trapped inside with superglue and gently screw it out- as i realised that the groove for the O ring seal gave me something to "bite" onto- I used a pair of nail scissors to grab the inner part of the groove and lo and behold, could grab it with enough force to unscrew it out!! So no having to take the pump off for now.

Only downside is that the old nut is mis-threaded and i'll need a new one. Thinking it was a normal M8 I didnt order that aswell. Turns out it's got a different from normal thread... anyone know about nuts and threads? Could i get this in a normal ironmongers?

Anyway, hopefully i can pick the piece up later next week

Cheers

Odd that the thread is different, i'd take it to anywhere you can get nuts and try a few!

Probably from before everything went metric, looking at the photo I'd guess 5/16" UNF of which I have a box full but it's a bit far to come for a nut. :)

Measure the size and count the threads and consult here:
