Just been given a 407 2.0HDI SW - problems!

Unread post by kitchD6C »

Hi all,

Just been given a 407 SW with issues. Airbag and TCS warning lights are on. Been suggested it's the indicator/light switch?

I'm a total novice on these cars, know nothing about them! It's done 200k miles, bit tatty so not sure if it's worth trying to fix it or just flog it spares or repairs. Is it a massive can of worms?

Cheers

Has the car been on diagnostics ? It may well be the comms unit but it would be a complete guess without a proper diagnostic check first.

The car comes with a copy of Lexia, but I need to install it on something first.

Lexia won't get you very far with a 407, it's Citroen only. Do you have the PP2000 or Diagbox software too? They'll work just right on a Pug.

Whereabouts are you? There may be a member on the forum who could help you out if needs be?

Sorry, I meant Planet Peugeot. It's got the Lexia gear etc too, but he could never get the Peugeot gear to communicate.

Have got the car running now, and it has ESP and airbag lamps illuminated. He bought a new clock spring assy for behind the steering wheel, and then damaged the replacement, so I'll never know if that was the issue unless I buy another and try it. The ABS sensors were duff, but those were changed. ABS lamps have gone out, but ESP remains. Also needs the heater flaps recalibrating, as he changed the flaps but they don't move properly.

I'm in Fareham, Hampshire.

Chap I work with bought it last year. 208,000 on the clock, came with two months' MoT and a Christmas tree of warning lights! I'm umming and ahhing about replacing my Saab 9-3 with it, or whether I just sell it for spares as it is for some pennies. He couldn't be arsed with trying to rehome it - I guess he has enough money already!

Just managed to blag a Snap On Solus scanner to see what's what. I have the following issues:

P1446 - Additive system. Minimal level additive reached:
He topped this up when he bought it, but apparently it needs to be told that it's been topped up. The Snap On scanner can do this, but it wouldn't communicate and said there was no particulate filter! Cleared code but it came back.

0601 - Level 1 Driver airbag fault
0602 - Level 2 Driver airbag fault
These could be related to the next one!

C1135 - Steering wheel angle sensor internal fault:
He seems to think he tried to change this with a used item, but reckons he's broken the used one while fitting it. Tried to use Snap On device to recalibrate it, but it wouldn't, and just said ERROR! I think I'll have to buy another used one (new are pricey!) and see if fitting that and recalibrating it works.

Didn't have a play with the heater flap thing, but looks like I need to get the Peugeot software working.

It can be a blessing or a curse Jim, I've been gifted a Volvo 340GL years ago with a slipping clutch and fuel leak. Turned out all it needed was 12" of fuel hose and the clutch mechanism lubricating as it wasn't releasing fully, all of an hours work and it was a decent car. Equally though I took on a free Escort estate that ended up being a money pit and developed all sorts of electrical issues once on the road. It'd have cost less to hire a car I think, for the 9 months erratic use it gave me.

I had a Volvo 340 many years ago... Great car and loved it to bits until the propshaft splines failed... That wrote it off...

Yours was a lovely result!

Not with cars (yet) but I've done that many times over the years with many things...

It's all about aggro vs. outcome for me and I'll always follow the past of least aggro....

Hi think i'm correct in thinking the 407 is basically the same underneath as the c5 if so i had the same problem with the airbag faults turned out to be the airbag ecu was knackered dont panick i got one off ebay for 20 euro so i'm sure you can get one for the same kind of sceleros the airbag ecu is just under the centre console and if thats all thats wrong you wont be too bad touch wood mine is fine 2 years on always check your battery and do bsi reset before rediagnosing i find it helps to pin any outstanding faults down as for your diagbox clone try entering planet and if it wont communicate disconnect and reconnect usb it usually works with my c5 and the brother in laws 206.hope it helps :)

Ouch that's a shame, they are surprisingly quick for such a heavy car and while they're not "agile" as such I found the handling was well balanced and planted. I saw an indicated 130 on my 1.7 carb (I was young and daft!) but mainly it was a comfy solid reliable motor, unlike the 1.4 205-engined 309 with a chewed up diff that it replaced at the time... Wow I've had some bad cars (age and stupidity related again) lol

Back on topic the 407 sounds like it could be another in the vein of that Volvo if the issues are only down to a confused BSI, definitely worth saving IMO as even tatty SW's would make a decent load lugger for someone. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix for you
