C3 runs rough after timing belt was changed.

Post by helpsteve »

Could someone help me
Citroen C3 1.1 SOHC no air-con (very basic)

A very good friend change the timing belt water-pump and tension pulley, and now it runs like it's miss-firing, he's worried sick that he's damaged my car, and I'm now stuck with a car that can't be used

He did make the mistake of locking the cam pulley with a 8mm bolt but did not lock the flywheel before trying to undo the crank pulley.
could it have slipped, any way he did after that lock the fly wheel, once the old belt was removed and the new one fitted he made sure the cam and crank were both locked and the belt was tension was 90 deg twisted test so not too tight. and the motor was turned over a number of times and the locking pins do line up each time. (could it still be out or could it be something other than that?)

Note: there is now message coming up that say's "Faulty Anti-pollution"

please can anyone help me sort this out I would be over the moon if I could get it working like it was before it was touched.
Regards Steve.

Welcome Steve

First thing is to go back and double check the timing; and that all disturbed pipes and connectors and re-connected. It's amazing what havoc a loose vacuum pipe can cause! If you get it on a Lexia it would direct you towards the direction of the fault that is putting the depollution fault on (which is just generic engine management fault).

You're probably right! I remember doing the cambelt on my BX for the first time back in the early 90's. When it was finished it started fine but sounded like a bag of nails. Refitted the belt a second time and it was fine.
