MORE HELP PLEASE

I am having problems starting my xantia 1.9TD 1997 .Central locking works, battery fully charged, horn works,RED led flashing on key pad,headlights work and dont dim when left on for short while "30 sec".when i turn ignition on there are no lights on dash board that light up at all.There could be water some where as it has been a wet few days.

TODAY FITTED A SECOND HAND IGNITION BARREL WHICH HAS NOT SORTED THE PROBLEM THERE ARE NO FUSES BLOWN AND ALL EARTHS SEEM TO BE GOOD!!!! WHAT NEXT ANYONE. CHEERS

I would try taking the fuses out in the engine bay and making sure that the contacts are clean.
After that I would look and check all the multiplugs that i could find in and around the engine area. Again checking to make sure that they are all clean.
If that doesn't work check and see if there is any power at the starter motor with someone trying to turn the car over. If that doesn't get anywhere i'd try an auto electrician.

Try shorting the solenoid contact on the Starter (Small Spade connector) to the stud/13mm nut on the starter connection next to it, if it cranks then the starter is okay, next check the voltage at spade connector when key is turned, should be 12, I have seen 5 volts here before and got around it by fitting a relay in this circuit and only using the starter circuit as switching current. (A jump lead from battery + to a heater plug contact and you will have circumvented the switchgear almost completely)It should go!

Some circuits are obviously working and your ignition circuit is dead.
Don't bother with your starter, I'm pretty sure that isn't your problem.
I haven't got your circuit in front of me, but I expect that back at the beginning, +12V is fed directly to the ignition switch, probably via a couple of connectors in the fuseboxes, but without being fused on the way.
You have three clues: the ignition lights don't light up in ignition position one, the glow plug heater lights don't come on in position two, and the starter doesn't turn in position three. These are three independent circuits supplied by the ignition switch, and for them all to mysteriously die without blowing a fuse is virtually impossible.
So my reasoning is that you have a break in the feed to the ignition switch.
Get a voltmeter on the ignition with the ignition off, and look for +12V arriving, may well be a red wire! I very much doubt if it gets there, from what's happened so far.
If you haven't got a voltmeter, so you are not sure if voltage is getting there, a quick check can be done with a long bit of wire from the +ve terminal on the battery to the ignition switch feed.
If your feed is broken, the wire will supply voltage, and ignition position one will light some dashboard lights. If it's not, something else really strange has happenned or you have two duff starter switches..!
When you turn the switch on you should get lights and action.
For safety, I suggest you attach the wire at the switch end first, switch ignition to position one, and have someone look at the dashboard lights when the other end is touched to the battery positive. You dont want the battery positive floating about waiting to short on any bit of metal it happens to touch.

Hi Guru,
Just noticed you said you changed your ignition switch barrel.
If your ignition switch is duff, I doubt if changing the lock barrel will cure it. In my earlier reply I was assuming the switch had been replaced. If not, then your problem is either the feed to the ignition switch, or the switch itself.
