Hello again,
now maybe everybody knows this, but it was new to us.
Trying to put a screw in to a difficult place - have to balance it on the screwdriver and it constantly falls off.
We normally use a bit of chewing-gum or grease or such-like to keep it on the screwdriver, but today we did something different.
A few months back at Lidl we bought some of those heat-shink thingys for wiring - you know - slip them over the wire - do your solder - slide the collar over the solder and heat-shrink with a lighter.
Today we put one up the shaft of the screwdriver, put the screw on the head , put the collar over the head of the screw and heat shrunk it.
It held the screw in place perfectly, and when we were finished we removed the screwdriver at a jerky angle and the heatshrink collar came with it.
Very pleased with ourselves.

Re: Learned a new trick today
Neat trick. I have heard of some people using super glue to stick the bolt to the screwdriver. That will hold the bolt in place, and, being brittle, the glue will snap when you do the angle trick to withdraw the screwdriver.
It would only work if both the bolt and screwdriver are clean.

I was eyeing up one of these magnetisers this week.
I quite like the heat shrink idea, will go with that for now and save the fiver.

I have an old and powerful loudspeaker magnet that I've been using for years to do just that.
Like the heatshrink idea - perfect for stainless and brass screws!

I used the same, they are very powerful and one stroke across the magnet in the right place will do the job. It was an obvious choice for me, I was a TV engineer.
