"Groaning" C/V Joint - can this happen?

Post by Bargeman »

HI All

I'd like to pick the "Gathered Wisdom's" brains.

Occasionally, very occasionally I get a "Groan" and vibration come from under the left hand foot well when either starting off with right hand lock on, or going slowly around a right hand sharp corner from a Give Way.

Usual test slow circles in a car park no clicking.

Wheel bearings and discs recently changed.

Any thoughts please? Could this be a dry C/V joint?

I think its probably more likely to be a wheel bearing.

I had this when my cv joint spat its guts on the motorway and got the bearing hot. Somehow the joint survived but the bearing was toast!

Thanks Peter

Sorry but you do not win the cigar, both bearings changed 2000 miles ago, and checked and rechecked, running as smooth as butter.

Again thanks for the input.

Thanks Gibbo2286

I think you won the coconut, a pint is on me if we ever meet. I've been beating my brains out for a couple of months about this.

It happened again yesterday morning so took the wheel of to check (again) bearings and CV joint. Lovely little polished patch on the forward wing liner, the rest covered with dust from the unpaved road I use every day.

The "Rub" only happens when I am on full lock, turning right, generally the direction I am turning into is uphill, and have just slowed to a (almost) stop, so the suspension is coming down.

That is why it is a very random, and very occasional set of circumstances.

Thanks for the input
