Would you buy a 05 200,000 mile i.6 hdi C5
Right who would buy a 200k c5 1.6hdi?
What should I be looking at? Apart from the usual cambelt, metal in the fuel filter...if the turbo works or is coked up?

If the engine is still going well at 200k it must be a good one, I would give it a go at the right price but change the engine oil the instant I got it. The 2.0. engine is less risky the 8 valve one even better.

At that mileage you choose with your eyes, nose and ears. Id give it a look if the price was right. Chances are it's been looked after if it made 200k
Re: Would you buy a 05 200,000 mile i.6 hdi C5
Nothing wrong with 200k on a 1.6hdi but as others have said it must be at the right price.
Also remember its not just about the engine the vehicle has done 200k in total - check previous maintenance records.
If its any consolation i know someone with 300k on a 1.6hdi - if looked after they are fine.

It's not so much what you're paying for it now, but what it could potentially cost you going forward - but the same could be said of any car - how bottomless is your money pit I guess!
My old 2.0 HD1 8V went 170k before I part exchanged her - never a single issue with the engine - just the front driveshafts went (literally one wheel nearly wobbled off)!

This is for a short term couple of trips so 2,000 odd miles.
No history or cambelt or oil changes and just found out no MOT.

As James says, you check it with you eyes, ears and nose. There is no reason why a 1.6 couldn't last 200k with appropriate servicing, primarily halving or more the oil change interval.
I have seen lots of 2.0. 8 valve Hdi engines with 300-400k on them still going well, my last 406 had 246k on it and was only scrapped because of the dreaded immobiliser problem.
Peter.

The car is at a dealer with no MOT and no history.
So do I risk the cambelt and do I risk the car not making it?
Part of me wants the adventure but part of me thinks bad idea.

I would guess it comes down to reliability and how important the car is in getting from A to B. If a hobby or project car then not so bad - until you have confidence in it over time, but I wouldn't want to rely on it for long distance journeys until you've at least had the timing belt done - if you're not sure if / when this was done.

"aline"?katanassn wrote:There is an estate in tumbridge wells that needs aline replaced and rear suspension unit ....can the parts be got and installed in a day?
Re suspension "unit" - depends on what you are referring to - Sphere, Cylinder, Height Corrector.... replacing the spheres or cylinder will require the system to be depressurised (a Lexia is normally used to fully depressurise), then bleeding of the system etc... depending on what needs doing.
