I'm on my 6th Citroen - my first C5 - which I have owned for 5 years. Reg: Sept 2005, Mileage 96000. It's played well up until this last 6 months.
After it's last MOT (Sept 2015) it developed a leak NS front - long story, but it ended up at the local Citroen dealers with a bill of £1600+.
The bill states they replaced the low pressure and high pressure pipes, hydraulic unit and of course fluid (3ltrs). This was in February @93685 miles.
Last week as I was following a slow moving lorry up hill when the "Service" light beeped and came on, quickly followed by all of the suspension lights.
As I was in the middle of nowhere I drove 3-4 miles to the next town as nothing seemed to have changed with the suspension or steering.
The RAC noted that the fluid reservoir was empty but could not replace it and after inspection could not find any obvious leaks. As I don't have recovery (that will change this renewal!) a friend got me the correct fluid, we topped up the tank (1ltr) and drove carefully to my destination checking every few miles for leaks and fluid use but non were found. A week on, and after having it checked with a local garage, I have driven the car home with the same 1 ltr of fluid still in the reservoir. The service light and suspension lights still come on after a few hundred yards. Garage found that the car does not respond when the height switch is used, and there is "dampness" on the chassis under the reservoir and where the new pump has been fitted but can see no obvious leaks, spheres seem ok too.
As I can't afford another large garage bill I want to take it back to Citroen in the hope that it is something that is under guarantee (£60+ charge just to put it on the ramps!!). Is there anyone out there that can advise i) what the likelihood is that it is something to do with the work carried out in Jan/Feb, or ii) what is the possibility I can get the problem fixed at my local garage at a fraction of the cost!!

Re: C5 Expensive Suspension Issues
The problem is probably not so much fixing it as finding it. I would be inclined to go on using it until something materialises, even if you loose the suspension you can still drive it - slowly, I had that happen several times with my XMs. To have a sudden fluid loss with no indication of a leak seems very strange, I suppose the previous garage actually filled it up?

Or filled it up correctly?
Perhaps someone can post the correct procedure for this, so you can check it yourself - a good cheap option!
If it's still running on that 1-litre, albeit complainingly, that's a good sign.

Peter N ...
I am assuming so as when we went to buy the fluid I asked what the capacity was - 3 litres. On checking the charge for the fluid on my bill from Citroen I was charged for 3 litres. I was wondering if it needed to be bled - and - if so can this be done easily or will I have to take it to the garage.

To fill an X7
Raise/lower 3/4 times (with cap loose)
Lower the car, level should be the bottom of the neck.

Re: C5 Expensive Suspension Issues
They say the LDS fluid level should be checked on forced depressurised setting - not very practical for non-Lexia owners - but good enough to check on the lowest manual setting for a rough indication.white exec wrote:Or filled it up correctly?

As suggested by Chris, here are the links to both the Draining, Filling & Bleeding the Hydraulic Circuit and on Depressurising the Circuit, plus Checking and topping up the system:

I don't think a 2005 will be an X7 though!

You're welcome. Although the procedures are almost identical - for the sake of completeness, I've uploaded the C5 Mk2 Facelift too!myglaren wrote:I don't think a 2005 will be an X7 though!

Re: C5 Expensive Suspension Issues
I would be carefully checking the fluid level first, though.
