stiff steering after engine dropped for egr change

The title says it all really, any advice? The steering wheel used to turn with a finger now its worse than it used to be without the engine on.
My thoughts are; air in the line, or the steering rack not sitting properly. I keep the UJ greased having experienced that before so I don't think its that. Is there anything else I should be thinking about?

Turns out that the steering column was pushed upwards when the front sub frame was raised and reconnected and was causing the stiffness. phew!!
