Expert help needed! New van bought

Post by Ed900 »

Hi all after finally buying a 'new' van I need to service it! Has anyone got a how to guide to service the thing. It's a 1.6 2011. I know to buy the correct oil, but that's about it. I've been looking on here and Google but found nothing, don't even know how much oil to buy

What did you need to know ? :)

A 5L can of oil should be enough I think as generally the 1.6HDi's hold around 3.5L (commercial ones may hold a bit more like the larger vans do)

Recommend you change the fuel and air filter too, and pollen (cabin) filter if its got one.
Andy.

Is there anything wrong with the van to make you want to service it?

What sort of mileage has it done?

Is there any service history?

Things I'd look to change (assuming there's no history) are engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, discs & pads, and filters (fuel, air and pollen).

I'd also consider the clutch assembly, and the aux and timing belt (depending on mileage).

Gearbox oil may need changing.

All this depends on what's been done to the car in the past, and what mileage it's done

In view of the problems caused by sludgy engine oil on the 1.6 I would change it twice as often as recommended.

Cheers, plan to give it a complete service, but don't know where to start! Don't even know how to get at the air filter, read on line there is a cover you take off the 1.6 . But on mine there is a cover that's bolted to the scuttle below the windscreen, that covers the engine. There's a bit of service history with it but I plan to do a double oil change to try and get all thethld oil out. It had a service just before I bought it, but I doubt it had the correct oil... On the bill the oil was charged at £20.00

I have a C5 2.0l HDi, and I use the fully synthetic oil from Asda (it meets the required specifications), and it is normally £20 for 5l

A Haynes manual would go a long way towards helping you I think. It will answer quite a few of your questions.

I'd not (personally) rely on it 100% however they do make reasonable reference material.

Haynes is infinitely better than nothing, especially for simple stuff like routine servicing.

I concur. A 'used' one would be one way too, if you wanted to keep the pennies cost down, there should be enough on Ebay I would of thought. :)

Do you know if it is the older 16V unit, or the later 8V one - the change over was in 2011?

The air filter is above the back of the engine - follow the obvious air pipes. Getting the cover off can be a trial, depending on how much space there is between the scuttle and the engine - on a C5 it's easy as the engine is not buried at all - on a C4 it requires removal of the wipers and scuttle panel to get to it! If it's a 16V then use only 5W30 C2 spec oil. Car engine is about 3.5l, van may be more. Oil filter is disposable cartridge type - located under the plastic cap under the air inlet pipe with a 27mm hex on the top of it. Filter comes out with the lid, and can be a bit of trial to remove from the lid; refit the filter to the housing and then screw the lid down. Fuel filter is under the air pipes too - if in doubt, change it when you do the air filter, as otherwise you have to fight the top off the air box again!

Feel a bit of a clot here.
Have done a search for a Haynes manual for the Expert, and there doesn't seem to be one. Partner and Berlingo, no problem, but...
Sorry to mislead. Never assume!

It's likely that there is a Peugeot "white paper" covering the Service requirements and consumables of the Expert (there were lots for Citroen Cars/Vans), and maybe someone can locate one online.
