Here's an explanation and the job being replaced on a Xantia:

Many thanks for your reply Marc, the demo looks a bit crude but at least I know what it is now, would you know if the arms can be bought with the bushes already fitted, if so where can I buy them as I have looked on a couple of suppliers websites and they don't come with bushes fitted.
thanks again

Yes, you can buy wishbones with bushes already fitted (which is easier in the long run, as if you replace the bushes and get them lined up wrong they will wear out very quickly). GSF do them (I got a pair about 2 years ago).

Once you have got the wishbones fitted, do NOT do them up tight until you have the car back on its' wheels, and at the correct ride height. That way the bushes will be in their correct 'resting' position, and so should last for longer.

Thanks for the info. James especially the tip about final tightening, I'll give GSF a go.

That was something I learned from citronut, when he helped me get Gracie through her MoT. Just make sure they are nipped up (and everything is properly seated) before dropping her back down onto her wheels. He also taught me a trick about separating the wishbone from the ball joint. On the wishbone, near to where it connects to the ball joint, you should see a couple of points where the wishbone widens. This is so that you can use a decent hammer to 'shock' the old wishbone from the ball joint taper. Saves having to source a ball joint splitter, provided it works (it did for me).

I just looked (using a Xantia 2.0l HDi 90HP as a reference) and the wishbones are about £100 each from GSF.

Thanks again James, all useful tips, by the way I phoned GSF and a very helpful young lady told me they call them "track control arms" so problem solved,

Cheers Bill :)

No worries - the video was just to give you an idea - I would replace the whole thing too - less hassle!
