renault 2.5 td

Unread post by jgra1 »

Hi all.. does anyone know much about the renault 2.5 td engine? I am guessing its similar to the xud9 / 11 mechanical injection .. sohc 8v and quite reliable if not that powerful.. 100hp and 200nm maybe

It's in a traffic minibus.. would it be a major backward step or a useful camper base vehicle..

Thanks , john

You could try googling "Renault 2.5TD engine" and look at Wikipedia, for starters.
Wikipedia lists the engines used in most vehicles, with historical and quite a lot of technical detail.

Renaults are prity desirable as camper conversions, I'd consider one myself. If it's the Nissan engine then it''ll go fairly well, if it's old it'll be like a tractor.

Chris i did google..parkers even, but first wikip (always my first place to visit)
Not a lot there to be honest.. was just curious about power trq and economy really .. i think its an indirect mech deisel of around 100 horses with a dash mounted 5 speed gearbox ..and nothing to bad to go wrong..

James thanks.. i think it isn't the nissan engine though..

It's nothing like an xud9, it's a common rail from Nissan. Similar to the navara pick up at work, possibly the same. It's a good engine, well suited to pulling weight. Only problems so far with the engine have been dmf and dpf. I'd like one of those in a master quite a lot.

In fact look here for its spec.

It's actually 135hp and 310Nm

The pick up is the 174hp 400Nm version of the same engine but through 4wd, the 2wd versions get the 135hp engine. If they go the same as the pickup I'd be happy with similar performance in a van. The Navara keeps up with cars to 80 then you feel like slowing down.

The Navara is here you can see that on paper theres not a lot between the two Navaras and the Van performance wise.
