synergie mot woes

Post by waveyr02 »

Hello all,
Had to take the synergie for m.o.t today, oh dear fail on 7 items including welding on the outer sill which was a shock because it looked perfect any way can do all the jobs but what concerns me most is the dreaded (Exhaust emits an excessive level of metered smoke for a turbo charged engine) . Any suggestions would be most welcome if there are any common reasons on these, some say injector cleaner might help it dosnt smoke all the time only if you floor it. It is a 2.0 hdi with 166,000 on the clock.
Thanks Simon.

What colour smoke? If black how often does it get a good thrashing?

I ALWAYS! fit a new air filter, change oil and give it a good blast on motorway in 3rd & 4th gear before arriving at the MOT station.

Air filter clean, oil and filter new but hasn't had a good run for ages with previous owner, and Ive only done about 100 miles in it quite steady,so think a blast is needed.

Could just be a buildup of soot. Mine practically hazed the town when i first opened the taps as the PO never thrashed it.

The only other thing would be overfuelling, check boost pipes and the like, but a HDI should be fairly clean if everythings tip top

on the day of the test put a litre of dipetane in the tank and give it a good run. It will pass no problem.

I had to use cataclean on the wifes Fiesta as it failed horrifically, a good thrash with that in and it passed no problem

I replaced the air filter (which was worse than I first thought) put in a bottle of fuel cleaner in the tank did 80 miles down the motorway in fourth gear then straight to mot station, where it passed on first test. Thanks for the replies well happy now.

What they describe as smoke is usually soot, a good blast on the way to the MOT usually does the trick.
