Post by Ttwlr »

How hard is it to put new pads on Citroen xsara Picasso ? I've not done it before but would like to try it myself, how hard a job is it from 1 to 10, 1 being easy.
It's 2005 model

3-4, depending on the state of the bolts and guide pins. On my 307, the were battered, and I ended up rounding out the head.

Also, invest in a good brake bleeding kit, as you'll need to push the piston back without causing air to get in to the system. To push the pistons back, a g-clamp is probably the cheapest device to use, or pay a bit more for a wind-back tool.

In a nutshell, it's a case of;

jack car up
wheels off
remove caliper
remove pads
check condition of disc
wind back piston (you may need more info on this)
new pads on
new guide pins
caliper back on
torque up
wheels on
lower car
torque wheels

If they wind back (will have 2 indents/registers on the face) wouldn't recommend using a G-lamp, which is fine for those that just press in.

In either event, I'd avoid backing off bleed nipple to make it easier, if at al poss - simply because I'm paranoid about shearing them.

Std brakes on the front of a Xsara Picasso, no need to wind back. If it's never had new discs, then it will probably need those as well, which complicates matters a bit. I can't remember the specifics on this car, it was a while ago, but I don't remember it being too hard. There are several different types of pads, so you will need to get the wheels off and have a look to see which is fitted. There are plenty of how-to's on youtube - but i couldn't obviously see one for Xsara Picasso. It's all pretty similar though.
