Xantia 3 litre v6 matrix

Unread post by Welderone »

The heater matrix on my old Xantia which I just sold to my brother in law apparently someone wrapped towel underneath to disguise it was leaking . He has sourced a new matrix but needs the new plastic feed pipes where can we get or what's the fix. Peter

I presume that you need new pipes because the old ones broke during removal?

You can only get second hand now, which are tricky to remove. The V6 hoses are unique, but the end fittings are the same on all Xantia, so you need to find one from a 4 cylinder engine, cut the hoses at a convenient point and fit joiners.

OK, my advice is, if the cooling system is still holding some pressure, try to remove the pipe connector with the engine hot, so that the plastic fittings are a little more flexible, and any pressure will help push them apart. Make sure you understand how the spring catch works before attempting to pull off the fitting.

A piece of string tied around the fitting ccan make it easier to pull off (but also easier to break if you get the angle wrong).

Although this is (probably) no help the 'clip' and fixings on these appear almost the same as the 306 ones. They too like to break. I agree if you do it warm its a bit safer for the plastic (not for your hands, be careful with regard to scolding etc if its hot)

Are the end fixings similar to a TD?

I'm asking because my V6 has a leaking matrix and i've a set of TD pipes in the shed.

Joiners??

The end that goes onto the matrix is the same for all Xantias (and probably a few other PSA vehicles).

When I broke one on a V6, I replaced it with one from a 1.9D, but the hose bends are different, so needed to be spliced about 200 mm from the fitting. The hose is standard 19mm, so joiners are readily available.

Best advice is to get the system good and hot, it worked a treat on mine just using the pressure to pop it apart

I would think that new inserts would be a better option as the plastic will not of been "cooked" over the years and gone brittle. New would last longer I would think..??

Yes indeed. Good luck Tony... Any problems, we're on hand to help...

One good thing about doing it on a V6 is that you have good access to the matrix connector elbow :D

If you take a hacksaw to the connection that goes through the bulkhead you can cut the plastic collars off the pipe without damaging the elbow if you're carful.

The pipes then pull off the elbow and leave you with just the plastic elbow and nothing else. You can then slide the V6 pipes onto the elbow and reattach them with jubilee clips. I did this on the Activa when the conversion was done as the V6 elbow broke when being removed from the breaker. It's been on mine for 2 years now without any issues.
