PPetrol PPicasso PPerdu

Unread post by Richard_C »

I've been thinking about a C4 Picasso to replace the C5 and Synergie, sort of does the job of both, but wanting a petrol as I reckon diesels will be banned from some European cities in the not too distant and anyway they are getting ever more painful to look after. What with filling them up with coloured wee and/or worrying about DPFs and all that. Thought I might order a nice new one in Autumn as a last throw of the automobile dice, age and all and don't really enjoy messing with cars like I once did. Plus all the second hand ones are diesel. We have a C3 with the 1.2 puretech 82 engine, nice unit so the 1.2 turbo 130 would have been just the job.

BUT ITS GONE!

A few weeks back there was a 130 petrol manual listed in VTR or VTR+ trim, and the 165 auto in the posher ones, but the Citroen UK website and configurator is devoid of all petrol Picassos.

Has anybody seen any Citroen news to suggest why?

They were supposed to be introducing a few petrol models in May according to this article, so maybe they want to clear some of the Diesel stock beforehand...

Thanks for that, reassuring that there are plans to reintroduce petrol. Good link. Looks like the 165 auto will be replaced by a 130 auto (so ending the older 1.6 petrol lump) and the manual gets a 110 bhp puretech, maybe non turbo can't remember where the line is drawn. Should be fine. Can't wait to see "Dune Beige" interior :-)

No worries, funnily enough when you look at the plain C4 configurator, that doesn't seem to have any Diesels!! They all seem to be puretech petrols - it's all gone a bit Pete Tong!

London MIGHT ban or, morel likely, tax diesels but it just won't happen anywhere else in Europe - 'cos there's just too many of them: it's still cheaper than cooking oil in most of (N) Europe, at least!

Paris has promisesd to ban Diesel cars by 2020, but that is a long time in French politics...

As long as they still allow me to run round the Péripherique I don't care.

The Paris ban might seem unlikely if you think about the politics and manufacturer influence, but one thing that stirs the French into action (quite rightly) and trumps most other influences is caring for their childrens' health. I reckon it will be introduced. Its just a matter of time. PSA have spent a lot on getting 3 pot petrol puretechs onto the market, Ford have their 1.0 ones, VAG have their own small powerful petrol engines, Renault have their new 1.2 - they see it coming and by 2020 will be saying 'bring it on'!

Its already a bit complicated in Germany, diesel or not:
http://www.german-way.com/travel-and-to ... een-zones/

It looks to me as though the best you can get for a diesel car is a yellow sticker which will be phased out eventually. Euro 6 ones might get a green.

Some cities in the Netherlands already ban some - I think Euro 4 and earlier.

I have run mostly diesels for years, but modern petrol engines are getting better and I just want to "future proof" if I can. Our 1.2 puretech 82 in the C3 is much better than I expected. Good and relaxed driveabilty, not like the buzzy no power below 4000 rpm small petrols of old.

[quote="Richard_C"]The Paris ban might seem unlikely... ]

From 1st July 2016 the following ban will come into force in Paris, i.e. inside the peripherique.

All petrol cars before January 1997.
All diesel cars before 2001.
All 2 wheeled vehicles before June 2000.

Conversely anything on a Carte grise de Collection, over 30 years old, has no restriction but can't be used for any business purposes.

It's the thin end of the wedge, where one goes, others will surely follow.

All diesels pre 2001 - so that's every XUD engine excluded inside the Peripherique. There must be squintillions of zillions of them lurking in sheds all over France. Better not go to Paris in my Synergie.

Actually, what I forgot to include is it's only Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 20:00.
So you should be ok to visit weekends.

I can see it now. 19.59 pm every Friday, hundreds, nay thousands, of pre-heat lights on dashboards glow as XUDs of all varieties are cranked into life in and around Paris. 20.00, garage doors are flung open as drivers hit the go pedal and Visa Diesels, Evasions, BX and miscellaneous Peugeots screech out onto the tarmac for their brief hours of freedom. All weekend, massed ranks of XUD powered cars and vans parade up and down the Champs Elysse, cruise past the Arc de Triomphe and go round again. Cheery owners wave and greet each other through open windows. The pale blue of particulates mixes with smoke from Gauloise in the summer sunshine. 07.59 Monday, all falls silent again as obedient owners pack their cars away for another week, and walk sullenly to work ..... magnifique!

Now, about those Petrol Picassos ....
