Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi Exclusive 2005 - sell it?

Post by birstall »

Thinking of selling my car - but I've only been offered £400.00 part exchange, or £460.00 on webuyanycar.com. :( Anyone interested in acquiring it? I'll throw in a laptop with a Lexia kit if anyone is interested. Still got 10 months MOT and drives great. Buying a DS4. I just feel out of place turning up at jobs in a ten year old car. I live south of Leeds. I haven't advertised it yet. Maybe I should just keep it. Any advice?

You were lucky there - I was doing a few jobs with my son in law yesterday, he has a SAAB 900 S Cabriolet in perfect nick, bought to use until he replaced his written-off Alfa GT Cloverleaf.
I offered him the C5 in exchange for it and £500.
He said I could have it (FOC) when he gets his replacement (A7) as WBAC had offered him £85 for it.
Said he would rather drive it into the sea than let them have it.

That's typical and so so sad - "I just feel out of place turning up at jobs in a ten year old car" People still think you are what you drive!

I know someone who is quite a wealthy person who refuses to drive round in anything other than a old van - he says the roads and the people on it means he won't buy a decent vehicle.

Dont buy anything to posh though, i had a guy turn up to price a job up for me in a BMW - i told him i wasn't paying for that and sent him on his way - i hired the guy with the 10 year old van.

Thanks for that Bick - interesting comment. Gives me a bit more confidence in driving what I've got for now.

I was chatting with a Barclays Bank manager, he said "You see the guy in the smart suit driving an up market car, he's the one we are most worried about, the most likely to be in debt above his means and most likely to default.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I'd be tempted by this, any pics?

Not sure my image would stand going to work in a 10 year old car, mine's currently 18 :-O

Good comments guys - always remember its not what you drive that makes you a good person or good at your job - if your vehicle is giving you no problems then you have no need to change it. I would prefer to spend £1000 a year on a good motor than face £3000 a year depreciation.

If it bothers you that much, get it properly detailed and stick a private plate for £250 on it :) No one will notice how old it is then :)

That's certainly true of some companies. Until this last year my youngest daughter drove an 02 Xsara. She'd had it from new and it looked superb. It was 99.9% reliable. She was devastated when her company told her they would stop paying her a car allowance unless she changed it for a new one. It broke our hearts to let it go via ebay for £500.

It's usually written into contracts or car allowance agreements, it's pretty common. I can see the point of it, you'd not want one of your reps taking a car allowance and turning up at major corporate customers in a rotten old mid-90s Escort!

Mind you, I want to see how they would react if the sales rep turned up in a pristine Jaguar XK150! Oops, forgot where I was! How about a pristine DS or SM!

No one would know with that plate, unless they were a saddo and actually went online to check!
