synergei hdi cambelt noise

Post by waveyr02 »

Hello all,
I have just changed the cam belt(a complete kit) on my synergie hdi 110, I usually tension belts by twisting trough 45 degrees as a guide, but for some reason I just twisted it slightly after reading something.Any way reassembled start all ok but as the engine starts to warm up there is a whirring coming from cam belt area, I disconnected aux belt but still there, tried next morning quiet till warm, I think it maybe its to tight but any thoughts would be welcome before I take it apart again !
Thanks Simon.

From what you have said the belt sounds a little on the tight side

I think 45 is ok on a cam belt though. IIRC it is only a 10mm deflection for the cam belt. I normally do 45 on cam belt and 90 on aux.
It sounds as though you have not even given it 45deg though? New water pump is a must too.

Been out there this morning and I recon it was even less than 45deg, so backed it off a bit somewhere between 45 and 90 deg now started up and noise gone now yippee. Thanks all for the replies.
Simon.
