Xantia rear wheel arch plugs

Post by harryp »

Hello,
The large rectangular plastic plugs that fit at the rear of the n/s rear wheel arch are missing on both my Xants. I cannot locate them on Doc Backup; many others but not these - they appear not to exist! I thought I had seen a post on here a while ago regarding them but cannot find it.
Can anyone help please? If so would appreciate the part No
TIA
Regards

I think you are looking for http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=53988

There is a similar looking plug used behind the rear bumper of an XM, maybe the same part.

Ah, Thanks for reply. Actually not the one. I bought a pack of those but they turned out to be too small; and to add insult to injury, was charged per piece for the 5 in the bag! Will have to get the car up and check where they go and replace as necessary.
The plug I am after is in the n/s rear arch right behind the wheel, near side only it seems. Just measured it and it's about 80 x 75 mm. Should have done that first  .
As I say, cannot find them on DocBackup and the diagram is not clear as to front/rear :? If it''s not on there, dificult to order

Sorry, I thought you wanted the one in front of the wheel. I don't think the factory ever plugged the big hole, thus no part number.

Ahhh.....THAT one. It was never plugged.
I used a Butyl Rubber patch (thick pond liner) and applied with black underbody panel adhesive then over-coated.

Thanks for that; excellent idea! =D>
On a different topic.. what dilution do you use Phosphoric Acid for spraying as a cure and preventative into cills and or closed sections. Dreaded rust surfaced where rear arch front plug had been missing. very localised apparently; would like to keep it that way
Would best application be by electric spray gun and extension? Certainly would not like to think of air gun blowing it out at me, delicate little flower that I am

Get the stuff from Dinatrol....I do not use Phosphoric Acid unless I have full access to the part and never spray it, I always dip the part or paintbrush it on after wire bushing. Zinc primer after that.

You can get a "sample" of the rubber if you ask the garden center/pond supplies nice :)

I would not be putting phosphoric acid into any closed body section without making absolutely sure that the complete section was thoroughly dried out afterwards. If the rust is really severe, then acid treatment will not restore strength. If it's only superficial surface rust, then a treatment with a good penetrating cavity wax* is all that's needed.

*Sealey do a really good Wax Injection Gun/Kit (SG18), air-line powered. An excellent piece of kit.
Can also recommend Cavity Wax ref: 5300.1000, 1L, carton 12, from the company '4CR'. Better than waxoyl, same price.

Agree....Waxoil is WAY TO THICK.....I only use it if I can brush it on and under bolt on brackets/dipping bolt threads etc (and only because I have a half a 5 litre tin left over)

Thankyou both for fulsome experienced responses :) . Did wonder about "Phos" in enclosed spaces but cheekily thought that airing it would provide a proper solution; thankyou =D> . Dinitrol it would seem to be as a starter, followed by wax.
I have found in the past that the best (only) way I could spray Waxoil was to thin it with white spirit and only do it in warm weather :) . Could be construed as a fire hazard but I gave up smoking about 40 years ago  I too have a 5 litre can from long, long ago :-D .
Appears that I will also be having a phantom pond as a feature  Just hope it does not form inside the car :rofl2:
Thanks once again chaps,
Kind regards

Waxoyl if fine when hot - place the 5L can in a bucket of very hot water, and it sprays fine.
Park your spray device (plant-spray, spray-gun...) in hot water between applications.
