HydroActive cars (and the C5) are dirty words at Citroen

But i've only ever owned Hydro Citroens . ( 1 BX, 4 Xantias and a C5). I don't want them to be dirty wordsStickyfinger wrote:HydroActive cars (and the C5) are dirty words at Citroen

Re: Whats going on with the C5?
I thought that 'last orders' for RHD were April this year. DS5 might still exist I suppose. Apart from that, no big Citroens available now, and I don't think they have an Estate of any description unless you count Picassos various.
I'm not surprised. On our recent-ish Ski plus touring trip, 1200 miles with stays in Troyes, Chalon and Samoens I saw just 3 French registered C5s,* a couple of Dutch and Belgian ones, plus one German. Quinzillions of Audi, BMW and Merc of similar price and of all nationalities. Barely a large Peugeot either. If you looks at list price (and in UK the company car user tax bill is based on list) then its up there with C Class Mercedes and some BMWs. Depreciation drives lease costs up, so its off limits to many company car users. How many private buyers will fork out £30k for something where the value drops like a stone in a perfect vacuum.
Good car, even sometimes an excellent car, misguided market positioning, epic sales failure. (cf the final version of the Ford Scorpio)
*in the first 2 days I saw more Renault Avantines than C5s

Re: Whats going on with the C5?
Just found this http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-c ... einvention
The CEO said “Our view for Citroën is that we are right in that mainstream, and to be successful there you have to have something a bit different. You have to add value.”
Whats the betting that 'something different' won't be the Hydropumatic suspension. Looks like my love for Citroen might fade away.

Re: Whats going on with the C5?
No, new C5s have well and truly gone from the UK and not on the future cars list either now as Stick says - but still avialable in LHD at Citroen France - for a while longer .....
We had a good natter about it here a couple of months ago:

Re: Whats going on with the C5?
There is a new C5 coming out, probably next year (2017), but since it is mainly aimed at eastern markets, it will be quite different from what we've known until now. No hydro, plain vanilla inside-and-out, boring engines, people-carrier ftw
The current C5 is officially -or is about to be- unavailable in most countries, so no chance of ordering one now...

Re: Whats going on with the C5?
Give it a little while, and the Chinese will probably be offering an all-electric C5, probably worth having, and of tidy performance. With pollution what it is over there, hundreds of companies are working on all-electrics. Meanwhile, London air just gets worse and worse.
The Chinese aren't daft: why expensively design a new four-wheeler platform and body, when European companies are more than happy to sell you one they've finished with, along with all the tools to press it.

Well they can keep it - I'm going to see about hydraulicising a DS5!
