The least favourite part of our Citroen

Post by xsaras4ever »

Hello to all.

The least favourite part of our Citroen is the two 11mm nuts that hold the longer driveshaft into the bearing housing on the back of the engine block.

Cripes, they are such an annoying pain, and we must have had to touch them about 100 times on various cars.

Does anybody else love them as much as us , or have an even more annoying part ???

The Activa centre rear sphere is my favourite. It's just so easily accessible and is never seized. It always depressurises so easily and never gives you an LHM high - pressure shower.

Or not..

There are plenty of candidates...

The clutch clip on the Xantia
The pollen filter on the C4 Picasso which is near impossible to change in RHD
The timing belt cover bolt on later 1.9Tds which is invisible, near inaccessible due to the turbo pipes, and just for added amusement is a different size to all the others
No 4 glowplug on a Bosch pumped 1.9TD

I just treated all my Bosch pumped TDs like they only had 3 glow plugs. Problem solved

Of course there is also the cotter pin that holds the clutch lever onto the clutch fork - the one you have to get off on some boxes before separating them from the motor because the fork is attached into the release bearing. Thats a lovely accessible one.

They were put there by a zen master to teach you about futility, humility and patience,

I don't find them too bad using my Snap-On 3/8" drive extension with a "wobbly" end.

I don't find the 4th glow plug or the timing belt all that bad anymore, once you've done them 4-5 times you're hands just learn the way.
The clutch clips an absolute nightmare, poor design. Not as hard as maybe it's reputation suggests but totally unnecessary.
I've never found the driveshaft centre bearing difficult to release, I struggle far more with balljoints but thats on all cars and only if I wish to reuse them.
I've not done a clutch yet but it's happening soon so we'll see how I find that.
Thinking about it a little my most hated job on a Xantia is shared between bleeding the suspension and adjusting the ride height. The effort involved in either job just frustrates me and I get bored because they are mindless tasks.

I don't know about least favourite, but possibly the most frustrating bit on mine is the bit between the front and rear bumpers :rofl2:

Yes! They're s**t aren't they? I've tried so many various ones in various motors - BMW, Audi, Citroen.. and not one of them comes close for ease of use to my £55 Pioneer CD/MP3 player in the Berlingo with the correct cables for the column stalk controls. Not one.

Mine was £55 new from Halfords when I got the Berlingo back in 2010. It's no USB but has everything else. Brill. I bought a tiny £5 Bluetooth jobbie that goes in the aux port and lets me stream music from my phone or use it as hands free. I need nothing more. Nav? Google maps on my phone. Nearly always up to date.

The bolt on the bell housing of my 1.6 Hdi 'X7' C5 that runs from left (looking from the front of the car) into the housing itself, so necessitating taking off the Fap, Cat and so on in order to take the bell housing off.

The flimsy mouldings around the clips for the internal trim to the rear hatch that just pull away from the main plastic moulding if you tug on them. (Yes, I have the proper Facom trim pliers, but getting access to some of the clips is not easy.)

Those daylight running bulbs that cost 25 Euros apiece, even with a bit of discount from my local dealer. Tried the LED route but they didn't last.
