Learned something new today

Unread post by xsaras4ever »

Hello to all.

We have done plenty of gearbox changes and clutches on Citroen and Peugeot motors - too many really.

We always remove both driveshafts, as mating the gearbox up with the clutch and the longer driveshaft is just way too much of a misery.

This week we were doing a gearbox swap on a Peugeot 306, the old gearbox was cable drive and the replacement gearbox was sensor, so we had to swap the drive mechanism from the differential - easy , 3 x 13mm bolts.

Looked at it and thought how much easier it would be to get the gearbox to line up with the clutch and past the subframe with this part left off until later.

YES it was , a lot easier.

Maybe you all do this but it was our first time and will be continued in the future.

Just thought we would share this for other idiots like us who always seem to do things the hard way.

There is no gasket just an oil ring - its goes back on easily when the gearbox is bolted up.

I learn something new every day, trouble is that by the following day I have forgotten it. Thanks for the info anyway, always useful.
