Berlingo Brakes

Unread post by BenC5HDi »

Hi all,

After a bit of advice here. I'd like some "better" brakes for my Berlingo. I'm not really interested in swapping calipers and messing about with hubs and bigger discs, just something less prone to fade and with better bite.

It's a 2004 HDi 2.0, with 1/3rd more power than standard, so I believe it should have at least 1/3rd more braking power :)

Ideas please? How can I work out what pads and discs to buy? There's just so many to choose from!

Cheers

I'm a bit out of touch on what brands etc but on something like your Berlingo don't be fooled into the hi temperature / massive cooling type of stuff. Decent discs and a soft compound pad will work well, start going drilled grooved and so on you'll not heat them up enough to benefit.

Whatever pads you get - just make sure they FULLY cover the area of the disc - some pads are slightly shorter and will cause a lip to form at the outer disc edge requiring a pad AND disc replacement next time!

Yes. Thanks chaps. I can and have replaced the discs and pads in the past on many many cars. I've just idea about much these days other than standard GSF or ECP midrange stuff. I've never had to for a 90bhp Berlingo. Suddenly it's got 123bhp and 201lbft instead of 155, it's a bit of a different beast.

Just as well it is not rear wheel drive. You would get to see a lot of the sky otherwise.

EBC green stuff on Brembo discs? If you've got cheap pads and discs in there at the moment then going for any decent branded make of pads and discs will probably give a lot more feel.

If you do go ahead and replace the brakes, I have a windback set that has yet to be used.

Thanks all.. I've priced up some EBC pads and their premium standard discs, about £140 all in which isn't bad at all. I could pay an extra £20 and get some grooved discs but I think it's not necessary.

I don't need a wind - back kit for it James. The pistons just push in, and it's got drums on the rear.
