XMV6 sparkplug removal

Hi everybody,
Continuing the tracking (sic) down of ignition/running problems on the XMV6si can anyone tell me about removing the plugs. When I removed the leads they are on towers and there is a metal shroud around the top of the engine. Can this be pulled out with pliers and is the socket required a standard 14mm?

Correct. Pull off the metal tubes and it's straight forward from there on.
