Xantia HDi fuel pump removal

Post by Skull »

SHMBO has put petrol in my diesel [-X Luckily it's only been primed but not started ....it was near empty so at least 75% of what's in there is petrol.

Tried syphoning through the filler but can't get anything out so probably a severe bend or anti-theft device fitted.

Decided to gain access for syphoning through the fuel filter but the locking ring looks to be over-tightened 3/4 of a turn looking at the alignment marks.

Green arrow on pump body and white arrow about 11 o' clock on locking ring in this photo ....

Tried the blunt screwdriver 'trick' but it's just breaking the tabs off

My old AX was similar but smaller this one is about 140mm diameter and the fuel pipe connectors are different looks like I need a special tool but no idea which type ... any advice or someone near Darlington Co Durham with the necessary tools :?:

If I can get the fuel lines off without damage I can probably make a tool for the locking ring or just break it off and replace (153120) £2.71 + new seal ....

The fuel lines are very easy to remove.
Firstly, tie a piece of string around the the fuel pipes 'cos when you release the locking tab there's a good chance they will try and fall down the side of the tank and then become a pain to retrieve :( .

Next use a small bladed screwdriver and depress the green plastic tab you can see in your photo, at the same time pull the pipe off. If it won't come off you've not depressed the green locking tab enough. Do ensure the ends of the fuel pipes are covered to prevent ingress of dirt while you work on the next part.

The tabbed locking ring can be removed using a screwdriver and small hammer. The secret is to tap gently at 4 different points 180 degrees apart around the circumference. It may take a few minutes but it will unscrew. Yes you may break a few tabs but there are lots of them :-D

Before replacing the locking ring, thoroughly clean the threads on ring and tank and lightly grease. It makes the reassembly job so much easier.

The fuel pipes are then just a push fit back onto the pump stub pipes and you should hear them click into place. Check for leaks before replacing the big cover.

Good luck :-D

Ive drained a tank from under the bonnet. If you detach the pipes at the filter at the engine you can then open the ecu box lift out the double relay and remove it.. You then conbect two pins which are all numbered in the plug and the pump will run constantly.. Cant remember the two now 1 and 18 possibly..
