Citroen C8 Bergen

Unread post by HansNOR »

When i needed a new daily driver two years back my uncle recommended a C8 that had stood at a Citroen dealer for some time. I bought it all fixed and ok for another two years on the road before the next EU inspection (every two years here in Norway).
On my way home the turbo blew ... so i turned around, drove back to the dealer and left it there to be fixed. Went and got it two weeks later and first thing i did was make a dent and two large ugly tracks along the side of the car due to some old lady with a tiny car with a ginormous "aura". To avoid head on collision I kissed the railing on my side .. :(

anyways. For 1 1/2 years I just enjoyed the space and the relative comfort of the car. Even installed a stereo that made your nostrils tingle when the bass kicked in :p
What did happen to me enjoying the car ? Water .. Living in Bergen you get used to rain, but you need a car that don't let the water in. For an entire year i had water misting my windows and wetting my carpets before I finally found the culprit. The tailgate hinges !
Had to remove the roof liner, the carpets and lots and lots of plastic before i found it. No problem to fix it. unscrew one hinge. remove old gunk. Fill with Tec7. Screw back on. repeat on other side and done. 5 mins. Then a few hours to replace roof liner, carpets, seats , plastics etc etc ...

And am I enjoying the car now ?

No - won't start :)
from running to not running in the time it takes to read engine immobiliser fault and economy mode ...

Got it up and running and back to normal. And next day .. Nothing. dead as a doorknob except this time the alarm goes off .. and won't shut up.

Tried to read up on the issue . And still investigating.

I see some have solved it by disabling the alarm. I want to look into it.

Anyone got the schematics for the C8 .. ?

btw. Must mention. Did replace both front struts including mounts on both sides and some small bits. Other than that the car has been better than its reputation. ( I got the 2 litre HDi with a bare minimum of equipment. No power anything and manual climate control. Guess that is some of the reason.

Will add picture of the beauty in a bit :)

ahhh .. so today is the first PROPER rain like normal day since I thought i had made the car all water proof .. just discovered I had not. Water in the rear just like normal .. BUT i do know it did leak from the hinge area as water was seeping in there. Now i just have to find the other spot .. and it is equally wet on both sides in the boot with the car parked at a slight angle nose up. .. I reckon it is the doors . Going to weld them shut now .. :p

This is the start of a good blog Hans :D

Leaks in cars are terrible things and can be very hard to fix... You are in good company with Zelandeth and his Xantia and I've been there too

You will fix it though...

Possibly easier than the electrical faults your C8 seem to have...

I'm sure you'll fix all of them very soon...

So. Still no pictures, but two days ago it stopped raining so i decided to look into the leaky situation once more. (the car not wanting to start i'll deal with when my uncle has time to bring the diagnose tools)
I removed the sidepanels in the trunk area alongside the panels up the last pillar and started to look for signs of water. The hinges for the rear hatch were now dry, but some signs of dampness on the rightside led me to the antenna. The antenna I was certain did not leak, but when removing it the threads were wet as with the base. Tec 7 was issued as a remedy and antenna put back in its place. I removed both rear lights and .. where the middle bolt enters the car there was a leak on both sides. Since I forgot to bring home some rubber foam from work I do not know if that will conclude the water leakage story -- but I am optimistic.

So, did sealing the radio antenna fix it Hans?

Sealing the radio antenna helped. the last of the leak i think is middle bolt on the rear lights. So 4 leak spots in total. the hinges being the worst alongside the antenna :p

now i need to find some schematics so i can get the car to work. Made it start once today but nothing worked except the engine . .
