Should I buy a ZX

Post by Saraphee »

The mechanics are being sorted, the interior is scruffy, needs a new windscreen seal and a paint job. No use discussing costs as for me, seen for the UK perspective cars are expensive but maintenance is cheap.
I like the sporting side of the ZX career but no little (well, nothing really) of the joys and sorrows of ZX ownership.
Now the Xantia is getting sorted I'm wondering if I should give it a go.
Would you care to enlighten me on what I should be looking out for as well as telling me of the pleasures that await?

Watch for the rear axle/ beam on the Zx as this is a weak point. Check out rust on the inner wings, front floor area and the sill jacking points can take a pounding from clumsy mechanics and then rot out . Find a good Zx and it will pay you in the long term , if you can find any good ones . They do crop up from time to time on Autotrader or Car and Classic , if your after a sportier Zx such as the volcane or 16v be prepared for a very long wait .Good luck in your search .

I've just done a timing belt and water pump on an immaculate 60k M reg ZX 1.9 diesel. It was immaculate inside and out and even underneath, but I just find them totally souless cars. I've owned one some years ago but not for long, heater was crap, the only thing in it's favour was it's reliability, it just wouldn't die!

ZX heaters are generally good. The cars handle well when set up properly.
